What's the best /vr/ gear you've found at a thrift store/goodwill?

>> No.5958810

Castlevania Legends CIB along with $100 cash inside

>> No.5958813

Magical Chase sealed, and it had the deed to a fully-furnished 4 bedroom house inside.

>> No.5958815

CIB Jungle Green N64 with everything for $2 at a yard sale, Atari Jaguar with CD for 5.99 at Value Village.

>> No.5958841

No kidding we went not to good will, but the good cents up in tallahassee with a friend of mine and found a full working steel battallion controller set. It cost him like 10 bucks or something since at good cents they just charge you for the weight as they plan to scrap all that shit for not being worthwhile enough to sell at good wills. But yeah, only issue was it had sat on a bunch of nasty clothes and old toys and had the little flip thing over the ejector switch broken off. But other than that was totally working. Shit was retarded.

>> No.5958854

>>5958813

Lucky. Nowadays they sort out such deals beforehanmd and only put it on their website. Only the shitty non-furnished ones left in store.

>>5958841
not retro lol

>> No.5958859

/vr/-wise was a Dreamcast with controller and VM, possibly a disc in it for like 10 bucks, and another time a complete working C64,1541 and a pile of disks for about 50 bucks in a tiny middle of fuck-all nowhere town of like 1500 people. I've seen but not purchased a few Genesis consoles and various peripherals but that's it for non /vr/ stuff.

Non /vr/-wise but all-time best was a working PS3 CFW-capable slim for 20 bucks. Also picked up a Fat PS2 and HDD adapter for about 40. If you live near one of the very few Goodwill Computerworks stores you can find some good shit

>> No.5958868

Colecovision and C64 dropped off in the electronics recycling at work that our boss used to embezzle from. Didn't get to keep any of it because the guy's fired people for taking anything for themselves and I needed the money to move out.

>> No.5959062

8 PS1 games for 50¢ each. The games were Twisted Metal 2 & 3, Bushido Blade 2, Soul Edge, Parasite Eve, Legend of Legaia, Brave Fencer Musashi, and Front Mission 3. That's $100+ worth of games for less than $5. They were all in good condition too. This was in 2013. I haven't had a haul any where near this good since.

They used to have a great Computer Works here in Charlotte. But a few years ago it became GRID by Goodwill and it's as gay as the name sounds. A lot fewer parts and junked computers, fewer computers in general really. And they expanded the vidya selection in that it has a lot more space in the new building but rather than being stuffed full of product, they use the floor as show space so it looks like a cross between Gamestop and Apple. A lot more stuff is sold as a set only, like you have to buy the PC and monitor or the console and controllers. Coupled with the fact that you're still relying on Goodwill to have games worth buying, even though it's curated it's nothing special. Plus the prices are basically all eBay on most stuff; rather than your typical "all PS2 games: $10, all SNES games: $8" they price by title leaving deals few and far between.

>>5959145
I went to that Computerworks on my honeymoon and came home with a truck full of cool retro PC stuff. Then the year before last I tried to stop with my wife and our kid on the way back from Myrtle Beach and all I could find was that stupid GRID thing which was basically like any other retro game store with eBay+ prices. Glad I'm not crazy.

Then I busted the plastic skid plate on the rental car we were driving on one of your weird speedbumps. It rattled and broke more chunks off all the way home including a BIG piece on some roadkill. I climbed under and removed it completely once we got home. It was like it had barbecue beef encrusted all over it. That's really more an /o/ rambling story but whatever. Let them ban me for being off topic.

>> No.5959180

>>5959162
Yeah it's honestly despised by local retrofags as far as I'm aware. The Computer Works had a pretty regular stream of regular customers while the Grid moved towards UNC Charlotte in what I assume was a bid to get college kids in for cheapish laptops and impulse gaming purchases. They definitely lost their cool clientele as everyone I've seen there is a minority, normalfag, zoomer or redditor. People used to go out of their way from 50 miles around to check out the old store but this one isn't even worth one check.

Yeah I used to post a photo I took inside it, I'm sure you could find it in the archive. The strip dirtmall the Computerworks was in had some softline clearance outlet I'm assuming was also related to Goodwill with literally tons of clothes and bedding and window dressing in huge gaylords and the shopping carts were no joke 55 gallon garbage cans bolted to dollies. There was at least one additional very large franchise style thrift store in the plaza too. Is ANY of that shit still there? There's a mentally ill welfare queen that lives at my local thrift store, using my tax dollars to buy up any video games. If I see him in the store I immediately leave. I've contemplated slashing the tires on his bicycle.

I hate hoarders of all types. The vinyl ones are pretty bad too.

I keep hearing people claim they walked into a Goodwill and purchased a 24 karat gold PS1 SCPH-1001 but the few times I've bothered going in, all they have is crusty costume jewelry, disgusting cum stained clothing, and on the one or two shelves of electronics, some old VHS players and alarm clocks.

The only time I've ever seen Goodwill selling game consoles is when I check their ebay knockoff site, and even then, you're getting into a bidding war with some retailer who has shelves after shelves of these to dust off and sell pretending he's cleaned and tested them. Best to just buy at yard sales or order online from reputable vendors.

Recently I've been getting big box pc games at op shops for about $2, suprised the ebay resellers havent goten to them like that have with sega and nintendo games. 2 recent ones were ultima 9 and mafia.

About 5 years ago I found about 5 atari jaguar games and 2 controllers, games and controllers with boxes for about $5 each. This was well into when retro gaming was expensive and in a small country town in Australia so really out of the ordinary. I was then able to buy a jag console on ebay cheap are start collecting. The guy selling it was about 45 and didn't look like a gamer.

Got super metroid in a tatty box for about $10 but this was when dreamcast was around so not that cheap at the time.
