No, it's Seiken Densetsu 1 (Secret of Mana on the Snes is its sequel, Seiken Densetsu 2) for the Gameboy. It is known in the USA as Final Fantasy Adeventure, hence the confusion. Final Fantasy Mystic Quest is for the SNES.

Even if on a technical level it isn't as impressive as LA as >>5956151 said, there's a lot more pain put into it. Much more so than "you wake up and dream people vanish". Yeah, no shit. They weren't real. Amanda was real (in-game), was a slave alongside you for who knows how long, and actually fought alongside you before you end up killing her. Koholint pales in comparison to that kind of gravity. Hell, bad enough, almost every one of your companions except Watts and suffers in some way. Bogard breaks his back (though he can walk by the end of the game) and IIRC, some versions of the game seem to imply he is Fuji's father. Lester's sister gave her life to save him. After you have to leave him for a while, Chocobo gets hurt so bad he has to become a Chocobot to keep helping you (but he still dragged you to safety before that point). Marcie CANNOT JUMP. Mysterious Man/Red Mage technically didn't suffer, but he was an asshole though. That much ends up being obvious when 28 year old spoilers He reveals himself as Julius.. Well, I guess he suffered, too.
