>have old-ass laptop
>get glorious new rig, 6 year old sister wants a computer
>reinstall XP
>install MAME, snes9x, etc.
>add fuckton of ROMs and organize them in a way a child would understand
>flash forward 5 months or so
>open the door
>she has the laptop open and is playing Chrono Trigger
>Chrono is named after me
>she's so absorbed she didn't notice me coming in
>light shoulder tap after she finishes the battle
>hugging ensues

So, what have you done to decasualize your siblings/kids/cousins/nieces/nephews/grandchildren, /vr/?

I introduced my cousin to SaGa Frontier and Ogre Battle 64.

None-the-less I introduced him to video games by giving him my old Gameboy with Pokemon Red and Kirby's Dreamland. Sometimes co-op with him in Perfect Dark and Gunstar Heroes as well.

The summer my Cawadoody-loving nephew spent playing Perfect Dark was fucking brilliant. He even dragged his little mates over and they played it non-stop.

Damn, that's impressive. How young is your nephew? When I tried showing my 10 year old nephew Super Mario 64, he just went "these graphics stink" and left in 2 minutes. I'm surprised your nephew didn't have a similar reaction.

He's thirteen now, but this was a couple of years back. He's since disappeared up the butt of Xbawkslive, but I try to netplay older shit with him whenever I get a chance. I never knew someone back in the day who loves Zombies Ate My Neighbours as much as this niglet does now.

When my brother's head isn't stuck playing Minecraft, we spend time together playing Rambo II on the Master System or DK64

I have a 10 year old cousin that up until 2 years ago, only played his GBC
Then I found it he sold it, his n64 and his snes to get a 360 and now he won't stop linking me videos of the new battlefield game and minecraft 360 screens
He's beyond saving,

I don't really know any other casuals though, everyone either has a snes, genesis or n64 somewhere in their house or doesn't play vidya at all

>> No.595434

>friend has loads of sega stuff from genesis to dreamcast, visibly dusty
>offer to buy some
>"No, they're collectors items, and I might play them someday"
>literally plays nothing but cod and minecraft
It's his shit and he can do what he wants with it, but damn.

>> No.595441

>>595434
I have too many people that do this
I talked to a friend today about his dusty NES and said he didn't want to part with it because they're collectors items and his gold zelda cart is like super rare and shit.
But yeap. his shit to do with as he pleases. or not do anything with

Feels breddy gud.

>He's beyond saving,

Don't give up on him, anon. Try him on older shooters, like UT and Sam.

The majority of his time will still probably be spent with utter tat, but at least let him know what he's missing.

>Decasualization
You what? CT is probably my favourite game, but to say it's not casual is a joke.

>> No.595573

I constantly remind them that COD are bad games.

Am I the only one who only knows casuals?

>> No.595585

>I constantly remind them that COD are bad games.
It just sounds like you are a bitter person. I don't care if my cousin plays CoD or what ever new first person shooter is out.

Oh gosh.
That's heartwarming

Nigga, she's 6.
Also, her favorite game is A Link to the Past, so it's a good start.
Super Metroid and such is a bit much right now.

Yes, but that's not decasualization.

Easy =/= Casual.

Really getting sick of people using /v/'s version of the term.

>> No.595658

>>595654
I don't even think a game being casual is a bad thing. I do classify CT as casual though.

>> No.595660

>>595658
Why?

>> No.595670

>>595660
It's something that pretty much anyone can pick up to play, and it can be played with minimal attention in short bursts.

>> No.595675

>>595658
A casual game is something you can just pick up and play, without putting much time or effort into it. Tetris and most puzzle games are casual games, as are most flash/phone games. A long winded JRPG is anything but casual, regardless of its actual difficulty.

That's the way I look at the term, anyway.

>> No.595678

>>595675
That's the definition of the term, yeah
Even if a RPG is easy it doesn't really fit. .

>> No.595696

Not really related but thanks to being in a poor as fuck family and not being able to afford a decent computer, I got into emulation and older games starting at about 11 or 12, I think. By the time I actually got my hands on a 360 I was super disappointed at how most games paled in comparison.

>> No.595728

I never really needed to decasualize my cousin. He sucks at video games, sure, but he had an N64 growing up. Recently he got another one again and we played Banjo-Kazooie together. I even got him Rayman 2 for his birthday, but now I'm wondering if I should have gotten him Doom 64. Fine games, both.

>> No.595749

i hate those people who think they are soo special for getting a sibling into retro gaming.
>my lil bro says he would take megaman x over cod anyday! so proud of him :333!
fuck off, you are just like those 13 years old fuckers who think they are the only kid left who listens to "reel musek xdddd long live pink floid!!now were is my medal???xD".

by the way my cousin got my into gaming by 14 years ago by giving me a diskette filled with nes roms and nesticle.
