Do you like this game? I just started playing it for the first time. Why is Mallow a frog yet he doesn't even look like a frog and they even say he doesn't look like a frog in the game? What's the point of that?

>> No.594881

Just keep playing, you'll find out soon enough.

>> No.594880

I just beat it a few weeks ago, it was fun. You'll find out about Mallow later in the game.

ooh I didn't realize it was part of the story. How do you guys rate it compared to the Paper Marios?

>> No.594914

I couldn't get into it, feels like a bland RPG with mario theme

>Paper Mario Thousand Year Door was your first Mario RPG

Play the first one and find out.

Personally, I'd probably put it on par with the first Paper Mario, with TTYD above both.

these are annoying

It's a fun game. Not as good as Thousand Year Door and Paper Mario 64, but I found it more memorable than the Mario and Luigi series.

I'd love to see a Mario RPG return to this style one day.

Are you 12?

No, strike that, it didn't come off as even mildly annoying when I was 6.

>> No.595161

Decent story, AMAZING graphics, good music, but waaaaaaaaaaaaay too easy. Entry level RPG for sure. I mean even that "secret" Final fantasy-ish boss wasn't a challenge at all.
Only thing I couldn't do were the timed hits with Mario in order to get the best weapon.

>> No.595446

Paper Mario 64 was going to be a sequel of Mario RPG named Super Mario RPG 2

>> No.595457

>>595161
The best weapon is the Lazy Shell, and that doesn't require anything with timed hits. Do you mean the best armour?

>> No.595460

It's fun, but kind of overrated in my opinion. I vastly prefer both the Paper Mario and Mario & uigi series.

This.

TTYD > M&L:SS > PM64 = SMRPG > M&L:BiS > SPM >>> M&L:PiT >>>>> PMSS

>> No.595513

SMRPG > Superstar Saga = Bowser's Inside Story > Paper Mario > TTYD > SPM = Sticker Star > PiT

But that's just me.

More games need to do this. Seriously, why is it that every single RPG I play, I just select an attack or spell and watch, then watch as my characters get hit, without doing anything? Timed hits made combat about 10 times better!

>> No.597287

>>597228
Because RPGs originated from games that were just six dudes at a table rolling dice and describing their actions. Like strategy games, the challenge is supposed to be intellectual, not skill-based.

This game has such a pleasant mood
The music, bright graphics, and light humor are great for relieving stress.

>> No.597316

>>597228
Because most of the time, it just drags out fights that aren't very tactical in the first place that much longer.

I have no idea how I tolerated Legend of Dragoon when I was in middle school. Only a handful of challenging moves like that Gust of Wind Dance justifies the combat.

>> No.597328

>>597287
>the challenge is supposed to be intellectual

What's so intellectual about selecting the same menu option over and over until you get low on health and heal so you can select the same menu option over and over again?

>> No.597340

>>597316

How does it drag out a fight? Doesn't it just make it faster if you can do extra damage by hitting a button at the right time?

>> No.597342

>>597287

My issue is not with the "intellectual" part, but with the part where most of every battle is spent just watching people attack each other.

>> No.597364

Hence the "supposed to be". Sadly, a lot of RPGs don't challenge the mind, either.

Even the most primitive rpgs reward you for choosing targets intelligently. FFIV is the poster child for simplicity and using the right crowd control can save you MP and/or Gold.

I love this game, one of my favorites on the SNES. Fun battle system, fun story, great OST (based Yoko), looks nice and started the whole Mario RPG thing which lead to PM, TTYD, and M&L:SSS which are all fucking godlike.

Yes, it's a good game. I love the atmosphere and music. It's sort of like a JRPG, but more fun.

No, I tried playing it and it was too simplistic and repetitive for me.
