there's no Diablo, like the best Diablo.

Thread question:
What's your favourite character build, and why?

Mine is probably the plaguefury javazon - a hybrid poison/lightning amazon build that sacrifices some LF synergy for plague javelin.
LF has a very low return on synergy skills anyway, so besides missing out on a bunch of Charged Strike damage to one-shot bosses with, she's a lot of fun to play, and plague javelin actually does respectable damage, both in dps (mine comes out at about 4k), and damage per cast, making it a lot easier on mana.

Necro skelly summoner.

Got the game ages ago and honestly that one character and playstyle changed my entire playstyle on games forever more. In any game, especially MMOs or anything similar after having played a skellymancer, I would always try to look for some character / whatever build that could pull off a "let minions do the work while I kick back and relax" playstyle well. Honestly, none ever managed to equal Diablo 2's Necromancer though a few weren't too far off in their own ways.

iirc, 1.00 didn't have a limit on how many skeletons you could summon, so you could literally zerg the whole screen.

>> No.5937524

>>5937519
I only knew about getting one skeleton per invested skill, but those skeletons were total pushovers.

unless you were playing with a thorns paladin - then they were practically unkillable in melee (reason being that reflected damage was applied before the attack actually hit, so if a monster died from having its own attack reflected by thorns, then the hireling/mob didn't take damage. Didn't work on the player char though).

AFAIK, necro could do the same with curses.

bullshit. If Blizz stuck to the schedule, instead of delaying the launch, it would have come out in 99.

Anyway, D2 is as retro, as D1.

So you admit that it came out after 1999. Interesting.

Pic related.

Besides, plenty of people in these threads play and discuss Diablo 1, just as they play and discuss Diablo 2. Diablo 3 can fuck right off.

This is a stupid comment, but can someone explain to me the seemingly everlasting replay value of diablo? I always see people "farming" for things in this game but don't understand whats going on. I'd almost want to check it out but don't get the community

>> No.5937691

>>5937631

it's a skinner-box like gameplay (random rewards, to keep you rolling the dice for more loot), but the gameplay is good.

While it's easy to make a decent character, that will beat the game on hell difficulty, doing so is non-trivial.

And there is a huge difference between a "decent enough" character, and a high-tier, fully geared one, so you can keep upgrading.

On top of that, there are so many ways to get endgame loot, you don't get bored.

My amazon can farm Andariel, Mefisto, Diablo, Travincal, Pindleskin, The Pit, The Cow Level - whichever I feel like doing at any given time.

And there are many viable builds for all 7 classes, so you can always roll up another char if you feel like mixing things up.

>>5937631
To bounce off what >>5937691 says, I never "farm" the end-game, I just like playing the whole game with one character on Hardcore and play with the hand I'm dealt; the random loot system and random mob distribution generally means that I will have to change up strategies and think up new ways to tackle challenges.

So Diablo 2 is fairly open-ended in that regard. And if you feel like the PvE portion is too shallow, you could use your farmed gear to try PvP if you choose some battle.net realm or find a tightly knit community of legit players.

Thanks! I've owned the game on battlenet for an eternity, this might finally be the point to play it.

Also PvP, Seriously? I had no idea this game even had that.

My favorite character build is aussiebro. Because he's based.

holy fire/holy shock zealot, because it's very non-gear reliant for a melee and I like to play untwinked.

it was still designed for pre-1999 pc's.

There's any good drop mod? I tested Jy-Mod and EnjoySP and haven't seen better drops (so I'm assuming they are tweaked for Hell diff only)

>> No.5937934

EnjoySP should definitely show differences early on.

I tested it until Blood Rave, where EnjoySP haven't got anything other mods like Perfect Drop has yield me more loot.

well i'm leveling a druid atm, and fissure shreds normal, and early nightmare with virtually no gear.

Granted - my drood had a stash full of high end gear since level 1, on account of my javazon being close to 3 years old, so I have the priviledge of rolling with a jalal's mane, 6-shael phase blade, IK maul, dracul, Enigma, Stormshield, and ravenfrost from the get go.

Maybe you somehow fucked something up during the install? I remember it happened to me once.
Did you notice that barely any potions drop but gem drops are plenty?

Has anyone ever cleared every single mob in every single zone in one game? Basically purging all evil in one go and turning the world into a wasteland.

It's a neat autistic idea for me, but I don't know if I can stick with it for however long it takes.

>> No.5938051

What do you actually want out of the drop mod?

>kind of a drop mod (difficulty mods with much better drops)
Drop Mod 1.10 (Hard)
Drop Mod 1.10 (Medium)
>"drop mod" (changes up skills and monsters enough that it can't really be called a drop mod)
Perfect Drop Mod
>everything drops all uniques and sets regardless of level every kill
Drop Mod 1.11
Zombie Drop
>everything drops monster level appropriate uniques and sets every kill
Drop Mod 1.10 (Training)

You can also easily make one of these mods yourself, or add in recipes that allow you to easily create uniques or sets.

That's practically how I play every character for the first act and sometimes even the second one.
