iirc V-Akuma was banned in some tournaments back then, haven't seem that many akumas in A-cho tourneys, just a lot of V-Ryus and V-Gief.
And it's not like some fighters don't ban characters at all (Jojo banned Petshop, ST banned Akuma, etc...)

It can be used in the same way as a wakeup DP because it has invuln at the start (more invuln time at higher percentages), in addition to being a close range punisher.
