Not really, you have infinite replays due to save states, and your decision making can be slow as fuck since a turn could take as long as you want. There's very little risk and challenge in turn-based rpgs, unless you start handicapping the fuck out of your party.

Vanilla BG is so much more fun to abuse. I beat it the first time when I was 12, and I fucking sucked at video games so when I got to Sarevok , my asshole got torn inside out. CDProjekt literally begged Interplay to give them the publishing rights and Interplay said "okay, but you have to pay for it with your own money and if you fail to sell over a certain amount, we will cut all ties and not reimburse you for the risk". Interplay was afraid of piracy in the region and the market being niche, although Ray Muzyka of BioWare was a big fan of the Polish guys, though he had no real way to influence the corporate ladder there.
Anyhow, the guys took the risk, figuring that since the game sells on 6 CDs and the cost of a pirated CD is around 20-30 zł (so around 5-6 USD), the pirated version will be only slightly cheaper than the full retail version, but the full retail version will come with a stamp of quality, good translation, and a lot of goodies inside the bag.
Interplay originally refused to sell them rights to Fallout because Fallout was a small game only sold on one CD and thus it would be much easier to pirate. (The localization of Fallout did emerge a few years later but it was bad in comparison, and on a much lower scale, with no Polish dubbing).
It was a success. It was sold normally in stores. And yes, we've had multiple physical versions of Baldur's Gate and other Interplay games, including DVD releases and "Gold Edition" re-releases.
Both my copies of Baldur's Gate and Icewind Dale on DVD even have a few mods inside. Reportedly CDP asked the modders if they can include the mods on the DVD and at least one of them received their complimentary copy of the Polish Icewind Dale version even though they're not Polish, so that was nice.

Good I was looking for a Baldur's Gate thread. This is my first run of the game and right now I am focusing on the expansion content. Finished Durlag's Tower yesterday and enjoyed it a lot. Wished that more of the games dungeons were as unique as the tower. Now my question is does Baldur's Gate 2 have dungeons that are like Durlag's Tower or are they more like the first games dungeons where they aren't that unique or challenging?
