r/berserk was getting filled with unfunny memes so they made one dedicated to it r/berserkerjerk.
But in the end there was nothing but contrarians and etilists who made it unbearable.
Hell,even cool fanarts didn't even get attention.

r/doom you might expect some genuine passion given how much the community has to offer,instead:

>Almost no attention for map packs,mods or projects

2bh it almost felt as though all the typical furry ans tranny trash from TUmblr infested the place after Romero "came out in support of" trannies. Now suddenly it's all faggy fluff and memes and shitty drawings ("LOL PLZ DONT BE MEAN GUISE! XDD") along with some tranny chaser busybody mod (who of course was added in the last 18 months) who seems like the most active mod on the sub at this time, who enables all this shit. He's also the guy who tried to get some tranny celebratory WAD project going on doomworld which didn't go anywhere. (Even had it stickied for a month which was a massive slap in the face to every other community WAD developer, since nepotism and abuse of modpower to promote his faggot idea.)

Even with stuff like Doom 2/Final, RoE or Eternal being tied to certain iterations of the series, i wouldn't mind Doom going to get another iteration that just explores gameplay and art style with story being just secondary.
Something like Twisted Metal but actual sequels/spin offs and even throwbacks are still there.
I can see an issue with having too many art directions and going into "Experimentation Hell" which can be seen in a series like Sonic.
Same can sort of apply to non games media, which is why i'd like to see an animated Doom movie for the fact it'd look different from both Annihilation and the Rock one.

I like the devs work on graphics I really do. I recognized it in mad max game which is also pretty at points but absolutely soulless. The dust, some little details and especially explosions are amazing.
But these guys have zero fucking creativity in terms of story or creating a setting.

With a decent story or better gameplay loop the madmax game would have been amazing. In the end they make the driving like in rage too easy, everything is simple.

Downtown though, the thing is that they had to make sure that even a shitty 386 computer could get at least 20fps at all times, so maps would have to be cut down and altered, or redone entirely, otherwise the game would just be playable for a lot of customers, which is a problem.

If you've ever seen the beta version of Downtown, it was more detailed, the alleys in the back of the level were originally supposed to be docks by the water, for instance.
I don't know if Sandy ever intended to have sidewalks and proper streets in this level, but if he suggested it, the idea might have been nixed due to adding too many visplanes at any one place. Again, 386 computers, even if in hindsight they might have been able to make it look better, they also wanted to fit their gameplay in there too.

What I remember from Hellbound was that it actually had some pretty good layouts inside the buildings, the streets are just there as an open space between the real meat of the level, and for the occasional open battle, and is part of selling the intended style of the map pack. The .wad is built strongly around levels looking like they're properly connected, the entrance of the level you're in is always designed to look like the exit of the previous level (barring map 01, of course), it all makes it feel like a continuous journey.

It's the best port for a modern experience/gameplay mods. Chocolate Doom and Boom are the best for a more classic experience.

I suggest you leave most settings as they are. You ought to set texture filtering in gzdoom to "None (Trilinear)" though. That's essential, but otherwise most things are fine. Don't jump or crouch unless you're playing a map where it's explicitly stated you're supposed to be able to.

"worse lighting" is subjective. software doom uses a weird lighting model where light levels fall off according to distance using a hyperbolic formula (!) which bears no relation to real life. hardware accelerated ports which don't take pains to preserve it lose an integral part of doom's aesthetic.

I see that perspective, because Quake 2 really does feel much more like a finished game (because it is).
However I think the disjointed mess that makes up Quake is part of what makes it work, and it definitely has more consistently fun level design, whereas Quake 2 starts pretty damn slow and takes a while to get rolling.

I really like that Quake is this weird and disjointed adventure across dimensions where you don't belong, and I love the gothic horror themes.

Doom 64 (reguarded as canon now, in due to respect with Doom 2016's implied lore) seems to imply that Doomguy has PTSD (Due to obviously trauma in loss of family, friends, etc, and fighting demons for essentially a big chunk of his life since March 15th 2022 [according to SNES Doom]

Obviously Doomguy's PTSD would be worse, because Demons would be more fucked up then Humans, torture, mass rape, black magic, ultra-violence, psychological fuckery, etc are all a normal second in hell.

Doomguy is a lot like how Mad Max was at the beginning of Mad Max 4's original script, he was a sad, insane man with essentially no humanity beyond killing shit, and surviving, The Doomslayer is basically this, just with a few more fragments of emotion.

But of course tardlets will pull some dumb card, because Violence has to be glorified every 10 seconds.

spent several hours today working on optimizations and stuff

changed the framebuffer layout to use DMA instead of a software blit (saved ~16ms)

added some head bobbing and implemented subpixel rasterization (it makes a huge difference, play the video in fullscreen)

im back to working with bsps since they're probably a bit more efficient, and getting portals working correctly was gonna take more work than I felt like doing at the time. the code is still there in another branch, maybe i'll try working on it again at some point

Heretic is weird. The enemies aren't quite as good as Doom's, but the weapons have powered up modes that rip shit apart. Heretical Doom, while I think technically a Doom mod, is built around Heretic resources. It changes the game quite a bit, but it's not really as obnoxious as Brutal Doom is. Could be that their tools are a mess and it takes a long time to finish levels, and they need a few months to finish up some levels. Could be console performance issues; the Switch version is delayed indefinitely right now, and have we even seen Xbone/PS4 gameplay? Could be mp problems, we have yet to see any mp gameplay, which was worrying me considering how imminent launch was. There's also several demons that haven't had gameplay shown at all. As far as Bethesda fuckery, aside from the fact that they're shitbags, with everything that's happened it's just as likely at this point that they panicked and decided to remove a bunch of planned mtx as it is they decided to add it last minute. The Chain Lightning gun which they never put in. Not sure what they had in mind for it though, but I'll speculate.

Similar to the Thunderbolt, but on contact with an enemy it locks your aim onto him, and then the lightning chains onto the next available enemy, and then the next one, and so on, and though it gradually increases its cell usage with each monster, you definitely get a discount in ammo for the damage done.
Probably would diminish a lot in returns in particularly large groups, where ammo drains faster and you get less damage done, but Quake just never has that kind of fighting going for it that I can remember.

I agree with the sentiment that your Quad Damage is kinda your BFG, because it'll turn really whatever weapon you're using into a beast. The Super Shotgun is a pounder under Quad, and the Super Nailgun is beyond Doom's Plasma Rifle, not to talk about the Thunderbolt, with which you can just sweep down groups of big mean monsters like they're nothing.
