Puyo 2 is perfect. Is there no other way to make a decent puyo mode? The later entries have tried a bunch of different ideas but none work as well as puyo 2

Agreed, I always stick with Tsu rules in the newer game if it's an option. Fever is kinda fun, but I just don't like it as much.

That's awesome. The chaining guides are interesting. Can't read it, but can recognize forms and guess what they're saying. The first guide even has sheet music in the back for the game.

Postin' Arles in a Puyo thread.
Have you been practicing your chains lately?

Sadly not, I've been distracted and not playing Puyo much. I can still get 7-9 chains consistently, but I'm slower than I used to be. I'm sure it'll come back to me.

Is anybody here playing Champions? I have the PC version, but I've heard the Switch version is better for online.

I have it on PC too, but I don't play it much. I'd be down to play if someone here wanted to, though.

While not that cheap, Puyo Puyo 2 on Windows 95 was a great 2000 JPY find at a 7-Eleven back then which started my Puyo joy.

You ain't too dumb for Puyo. You're too dumb to practice. So get to it, you little hoe. Practice your chains.

I want to play this game very well. But I'm not sure if I should buy Champions or just play PuyoVS. But PuyoVS is bugged... it doesn't respond well with controllers.

I think it's alright for future games to try and introduce new modes even if Tsu remains the standard for all eternity. Competitive Puyo isn't for everyone, I'd wager the majority are just casuals who want some puyo fun. Give 'em any decent fun modes.

>> No.5929761

>>5929242
Champions feels nicer to me and there's more players online at any given time. Last I tried it, PuyoVS usually only had a small group of experienced Japanese players on it, Champions has more people with varying skill levels from all over. Still a small community, so you'll get matched with people way better than you a lot (at least the PC version, Switch might be different).

>> No.5929763

>>5929257
I agree with this. As long as Tsu stays in the games, I'm ok with them experimenting with new modes.

Panel de pon fan here

My series is dead. Can you all post me some guides on how to play Puyo? I tried like ten rounds but it didn't feel intuitive.

1 Puyo is not exactly doing great either, Puyo Tetris was a small revitalization but now it's back to pedo irrelevancy.
2 Pedo de Pon actually came out on Japanese Super Famicom Mini just not on the American release because of the stupid Tetris name lol. It's not THAT dead.
Why would you need a new release anyway, the games are essentially the same.

I like the guides on Puyo Nexus a lot
https://puyonexus.com/wiki/How_to_Play_Puyo_Puyo

It takes a while to get used to, but eventually you start recognizing possible chains quickly. Understanding basic forms like stairs and sandwich help a lot with that.

New rules, new aesthetic, maybe special character abilities. It's tiring playing the SNES game after years and years. GameCube one was alright, and the DS one was shit.

Yeah. Puyo Puyo eSports, was released as Puyo Puyo Champions outside Japan. It's also on all the main consoles and in arcades too.

>>5929858
It's all multiplayer focused, there's no story mode like other Puyo games. Single player is basically limited to playing against the CPU. If you want to play against other people though, it's probably the best option right now.

I actually think it's pretty cool that SEGA of Japan acknowledges Robotnik's MBM as a valid entry in the Puyo series, even their official Jap twitter account mentions that game. And of course in Sonic Mania.
