Only retarded zoomers like this shitty game and think it's better than the original.
As garbage as Bioshock.

I like SS1 just fine but frankly anybody who claims to not regard 2 as a massive improvement in every single respect over the original is either retarded or just being a dishonestly contrarian faggot. Piss of either way TIA.

SS2 adds a lot of new features, while still keeping most of SS1's. It also has a UI and controls that aren't a bizarre mess. It's a straight up upgrade in a lot of ways. I also think SHODAN is at her best in the second game. SS1 is still great though.

It brought back UU's magic system as psionics, has much better AI, and is far more systemic with you being able to do things like hitting a metal pipe to lure a hybrid around a corner, crushing a maintenance droid by dropping an elevator on it in cargo bay, or setting yourself on fire to avoid damage from explosions and incendiary monkeys. Systemically, SS2 blows the first game out of the water and all arguments in favor of SS1 are things like "the laser rapier was stronger" or "the mazes were bigger".

The maps are much bigger and more fun to explore. For example, all your buffs will reset on every map change, so you need to rebuff all the time, especially running speed. Even more so when you have to backtrack. For a psy character this is especially annoying. And the other classes are boring, why would you play them?

Also the simmy feel of body kinematics is great. Leaning especially feels strangely satisfying and realistic. but also the way you bump off walls when you run/jump into them.

The music, too: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fz1wlcZnhv8

I also really dig the graphics. Looks kinda futuristic and modern at this point, especially with the banding-free OpenGL renderer.

>>5918492
SS2 also has a much better story and more interesting enemies. SS2's enemies have a lot more personality and have some pretty great lines. Mainly the mind controlled zombie dudes and the protocol droids. The research mechanic is also great. Being able to research dead enemies so you can do more damage to them and get a little bio for them is awesome.

Those are some valid points, but SS2 just has so many improvements over SS1 it isn't enough for me to say SS1 really is better.

Psi blows. Those fuckers will insta hitscan you or toss grenades at you before you can let off a single fireball or whatever. I also hate that the fan patch also further nerfs the shit out of psi by making dumb changes like localized pyro no longer protecting you from explosions.

SS2 ending is shit, everyone agrees on that. It wasnt the intended original ending.
>“Due to miscommunications or differing ideas, a different cinematic video was created from the one that I originally scripted,” says Levine. “It had this elaborate sequence where Shodan would attempt to kill you in a double-cross, as this ‘cyber stinger’ that was in view provided tension of your impending doom.” Upon getting his hands on the video for the ending sequence, Levine didn’t see anything that he wrote in the script. “We didn’t have much to work with. It was like when you look in the cupboard and you’re trying to make soup, and you have a bag of salt and couple of pinto beans.” Working with fixed assets can be extremely challenging especially with limited time and resources as well as fighting the technology back then. Levine remembers, “We had to write to the assets we had at that point, and all we could do was edit it. We completely ran out of time and that cut scene wasn’t the right ending for the game.”

The only thing SCP has changed in this regard is removing immunity from exploding protocol droids, which makes sense given that vanilla's Localized Pyro didn't offer immunity to explosions from other mechs, rockets, slug-turrets, and grenades (except incendiary).

SS2 added a lot of unnecessary shit that just made things more complicated to make them complicated. You telling me if I fire a gun more than a few times it's going to break? Research was tedious having to deal with all the chemicals. Enemy spawns would happen in rooms you had just cleared once you moved to the next room, so you get attacked from behind from somewhere you thought was safe. Tying all the weapons to different skills for reasons. If I can pull the trigger on one gun, I can pull the trigger on literally any gun. The game also had a bland pallet and smudgy filtered graphics.

Much of the "unnecessary shit" were present on UU, and removed from SS1, then put back in SS2.

>You telling me if I fire a gun more than a few times it's going to break? Research was tedious having to deal with all the chemicals.
Yes, you need to have an IQ of over 90 to see the appeal.

>Enemy spawns would happen in rooms you had just cleared once you moved to the next room, so you get attacked from behind from somewhere you thought was safe.
This is whole fucking point of the game, you retarded zoomer. You're not supposed to feel "safe" on any point of the game, nor to be taking a nice stroll around the station, but rather, to be in a constant state of danger and tension. That's what makes the atmosphere of the game. Don't like it? Go play walking simulators, that might be more up to your alley.

>Tying all the weapons to different skills for reasons. If I can pull the trigger on one gun, I can pull the trigger on literally any gun.
As said, there's a minimum IQ requirement to play.

>The game also had a bland pallet and smudgy filtered graphics.

No it wasnt, stop lying zoomer. People complained about Thief not looking as good as other games, but System Shock 2 was considered a major improvement and on par with most major games. Shock 2 arguably looks better than Thief 2.
Everyone thought the ship looked beautiful and was extremely atmospheric. Go look for yourself, search critical reviews or forum posts from 1999-2000 and they gush about how great the game looks.

SS1 was vastly more impressive for its time than SS2 was. SS2 didn't really bring anything new to the table, it was just a slightly more polished rehash of, basically, the same game.

Rehash it may be, but it's not a bad game by any means. Oh no, it's still one of the best games of its time, and I would still sooner sink an evening into it than any Bioshock title.
