I’ve been using my Wii to emulate NES and SNES games for about a decade now, but as TVs are moving into higher resolutions the Wii and its 480p output is increasingly looking worse every time I upgrade. I’m looking at the SNES classic as an alternative, but currently I can’t decide between the US and European versions. I’m in Europe for the next couple months, so I have ample opportunity to get this one or wait until I get back and pick up a US one. It seems I can load NTSC ROMs on either, so it’s really an aesthetic choice. So let’s start a debate: which looks better, /vr/?

First, the Wii's video output was always shit, especially compared to the component output on Gamecube. Second,

This.

Only get a ShitNES mini if you want audio lag, bad scaling, and poor Super FX emulation.

Just because OP is a fag that buys roms from companies that emulate their own games doesn't mean emulation is inherently bad, hardwarefag.

The whole point of using a Wii to emulate is that it can output to a CRT. If you're just going to plug it into an HDTV you might as well use a PC.

Personally I find having to use a PC on a TV to be a pain in the aaa. I did the HTPC thing for years and it was virtually impossible to use it without having a wireless keyboard on hand every time something unexpected happened, which defeat3d the purpose imo. I used a 720p TV for years and the Wii looked fine on that, slightly soft but for retro games that isn’t really a bad thing. Going into 4K it’s pretty bad though.

Analogue SNT for SNES, AVS and flash cart for NES. MEGASG for Genesis. Anything else isn't plug and play or is shit if it is.

Why would I want to buy cartridges? I have zero interest in spending $300 just to play EarthBound.

My Samsung 40" 4K HDMIs right into my PC as a third monitor no trouble. Various emulators have proper response on it as long as it's not fullscreen.

Do it at your desk and monitor.

Oh shit, I actually did not know this. I wonder if there would be a way to make those new official Nintendo SNES wireless pads work with it

Get both, they're not very expensive and you're going to wish you had extra controllers down the road.
