Can I have some recommendations for a retro game that has an angry, depressing, lonely, misanthropic, hateful, nihilistic and/or downer vibe? I'm a bad mood and want a game to match.

Bonus points for gothic atmosphere, gore, Lovecraftian elements, and Halloween vibes, but even a recommendation without any of those would be nice.

Picture mostly unrelated (although I do love Castlevania).

I racked my head for a while, and I while I could think of one or two games which hit one or two of those points, I couldn't come up with anything that really hits what you're looking after.

You might appreciate the Dirt album, by Alice In Chains, if you want some music that's kinda like that. Assuming you like grunge/heavy metal.

Couple years after 2000, so not retro, but Twisted Metal : Black for the PS2 is the one game I can think of which really hits a lot on that gloom, despair, and hatred, it's a really dark detour for the series which otherwise was much more humorous and colorful.
The European version is censored and removes the cutscenes and story parts, so that really kills a lot of that atmosphere, if you can, buy or emulate the American version.

Sorry that I couldn't think of any pre-2000 ones.
