Has anyone used a receiver to component video to HDMI? My OLED doesnt have component video inputs and I'm wondering if its a workaround instead of buying an OSCC or framemeister. All my consoles (except NES) are modded for rgb/component video currently.

A receiver isn't going to be as low latency as the OSCC stupid fuck. Also all your consoles will look like shit since you can't put CRT shaders on them.
Real consoles with CRT > Emulation and CRT shaders on OLED > Real consoles on OLED
You somehow managed to pick the very worst option out of any possibility.

just thought id ask since I can get the receiver for free. i'll just save up for a retrotink then

First, ignore idiots like that moron that can't understand we are all laughing at his insecurities and incorrect bullshit.
As for your question.
Yes it will work, if the receiver supports it, and with no latency. The issue is that most have with their transcoding is it is very basic to be fast. It looks blurry and the signal sent to your tv will then just be upscaled again after reaching it. However it will be blurry every time. Most receivers intention was to upscale tv/movie, not games. Everything about it is tv/movie oriented in how it scales. Sometimes removing dithering or other game related shit.

Go with OSSC/XRGB over retrotink if you can. 2x is only good if you never care about a system that uses the other outputs or scaling higher than 2x. With OLED it is even more noticeable the color is limited as well. Not that it matters since CRT is limited in the same way, but why not get the most of an OLED?

I have done this before. On mine, it wasn't as sharp of a conversion from component to HDMI than I got from a Framemeister, but it was decent. If it is more cost-effective to do it with the receiver, then you could do a lot worse.

Yes. Billions of people have done this because there's a receiver built into most TVs. The whole point of things like OSSC is to provide a better alternative for old games.

If the receiver is free, take it bro. It won't hurt to try and see what your consoles will look like hooked up to it.

This. Google the model number beforehand if you're worried. Unless it's a total bottom shelf unit, there will be tons of specs listings and reviews. Home theater geeks really rip apart everything wanting to know how everything works.

I did a test with SM64 on a everdrive with the deblur code on. Doesn’t seem to be too laggy yet, but the colors aren’t very rich and the whole picture is still a bit blurry. Any good benchmark games to really check? This is a pioneer Vsx-1022

weird, the receiver only coverts the n64 signal. doesnt work for SNES or Genesis, even though both are component video 240p

What cables are you using? Any modifications to the systems? Everything NTSC?

Could also be a bad input sector on the reciever. Try using the same input to see.

The N64 and snes cable are exactly the same, I’ll have to check into the settings more and see

Are there really no more modern TVs with YUV plugs? I don't care about 4k, 1080p would be totally fine for my mancave.

I believe only the more recent OLEDs don’t have YUV Anymore but most 1080 TVs still do
