What are some good platformers on the nintendo 64?

>> No.591020

Mario 64.
Banjo Kazooie\Tooie.
Rocket: Robot on Wheels.
Conker's Bad Fur Day.
Goemon's Great Adventure\Mystical Ninja.
Rayman 2.
Yoshi's Story.

Not exactly platformers, but:
Zelda - Ocarina of Time.
Zelda - Majora's Mask.

There's also 40 Winks, but it was never officially released so you'll need an emulator or a flash cart.

I hear Chameleon Twist 2 is a decent game.

I got the first game after a clerk demo'd the first level for some kid in a funcoland. I thought the whole game was going to be like that. Then I took it home and was having fun, until the cool jungle levels turns into bubble gum and candy land levels... and it posed little to no challenge whatsoever.

I hear the sequel is better, but someone else needs to confirm it. I just remember feeling sorry my mom spent money on that game for me, I didnt have the heart to tell her I was so disappointed.

Oh god, the nostalgia is flooding over me.
There is was always one level that scared the fuck out of me. I think it was the castle one.

>> No.591392

if you wanna scrape the bottom of the barrel too, you can always go for Earthworm Jim 3D.

It does some Psychonauts/Inception type shit where you play in your own head and shit.

played it recently. it's kinda shit. the levels are short and uninspired and the controls really sluggish and slow and unresponsive. you gotta tap the dpad a lot

>> No.591457

Rocket: Robot on Wheels.

You'll probably get eaten alive for saying that, but before you do just know that you're not alone. Highly overrated game.

The levels get great later on. The first dozen or so are a waste of time though. Can't agree about the controls. You do move kinda slow-ish if you're not dashing, but I had no trouble with them being unresponsive.

Maximo: Ghosts to Glory plays like a linear n64 platformer

Not /vr/, sadly. I love that game, though.

On-topic, Rocket: Robot on Wheels is a really good and under looked game for the N64. It's by Sucker Punch.

Also Goemon's Great Adventures is probably my favorite 2.5D platformer ever. Great bro-op fun (if you have a pal), perfect difficulty, awesomely Japanese sens of humor, god tier music.

I thought one was great but I beat it over the course of a rental from Blockbuster, I didn't buy it.

Didn't have the name ScreamTV for nothing...

It also has an awful camera and boss fights, but it isnt bad outside of that.

It was very fun. But I remember beating the entire game in one whole sitting because I had to return it later that same day I beat it. However, I was playing it a few days before and I was losing and starting over because I had no memory card.

Although it's not an exclusive, Shadowman is a pretty damn good game.
It has tank-like controls, but only casuals complain about that. I was able to enjoy the whole entire game with Kb+M controls.

Worth noting that if you're trying to play Bad Fur Day on N64, and getting assraped by the difficulty, apparently entering EASY or VERYEASY at the cheat menu will help.

not fucking gex 64 that's for sure

I don't know why, but I prefer the N64 version, it's just a lot more darker and scarier

Every time I say that people assume I'm formulating an elaborate ruse. I really need to get off my arse and make a review for it.

Yea. It's actually pretty neat. Great textures. Gameplay is a bit dull, but I'm not a huge platformer fan.

They replaced the FMV cutscenes of the PS1 version with ingame ones, which was a nice touch.

The PS1 version is 400MB, and the N64 one 32MB. The graphics quality, etc, is just as good, if not better. Pretty neat, IMO.
