One of the guys from 46okumen group is working on translating Tokyo Twilight Busters, Blade of Darkness and Last Armageddon: https://twitter.com/hallwaytaupe

If that screenshot in the OP is representative of what the end product will have, I'm not holding my breath.

It's not wrong per se but the tone is way off.

(I say this as someone who has gone through the opening of that game several times.)

I'm pretty sure Tuned Heart wasn't. It had errors, sure, but it was not machine translated. The discussion in the last thread cut off though.

Errors that are easily explained with machine translation and complete lack of Japanese knowledge.
Pretty much every current translator uses MTL, the main difference is whether you understand when and where it gets things wrong.

It had way too much right to be dismissed as machine translation. But it seems your mind is made up already.

I honestly have zero idea. As far as I can tell, Retronomicon's translations made sense story-wise, it's all that matters to me. But maybe he changed the tone of some lines or something for the better, like WD.

There are so many people on this site in general that get extremely butthurt when anything they like gets translated because they're gatekeeping faggots. They don't want to feel like they wasted hundreds of hours of their lives learning a language just to consume obscure games/manga/light novels earlier than most people.

that would be pretty retarded of them considering that learning jap is worth it for the porn alone

>> No.5900909

Nah, you wind up getting overtly literal translations with the machine translation, whereas real companies have (sometimes) people that can actually understand Japanese, at least conversationally; translate it correctly with our equivalent of the nuances

AFAICT the 46okumen guy this thread is about is only working on the technical side, and he has three different translators he's enlisted, one for each project.

So any and all progress depends on the translators.

What I mean is, that's just standard fare. Not only is it completely expected for these projects to drag on for years, most of these dinguses are just working on them on their spare time and they have actual day jobs. They're done when they're done, I have zero expectations of these things actually coming out, they don't owe me anything, I can only be thankful if someone decides to shit out a release on my plate. Except if it's like a patreon thing or something, then there is reason for his patrons to get upset if the guy is not deliveran.

>> No.5902029

The 46okumen guy is legit, he did EVO and Rusty and other games.
He has work ethic.
In fact, his groups produced machine translation patches before of his projects, but only to convince new translators they can do the technical insertion, and refused to publish those versions before all text is redone.

The machine translation guy is the patreon faggot, "owning the weebs" and hiding behind "it's just a liberal translation that's why it's so shit" and in the end go "so what? sue me loser" The translations are unhelpful and buggy.

Someone here on /vr/ is real, real salty that machine translation releases are hated and stanned for them quite a bit, then is trying to smear all legitimate translation groups ("see? machine translation too! they are all the same! patreon faggot isn't so bad! I just want games!")

Tokyo Twilight Busters in English in good hands rather than the patreon hack (confirmed to lurk here) is to be celebrated.

>> No.5902303

No, not played, but I watched a playthrough of it for the PC Engine. Since it was PCE, it was stripped of adult content and all the lampshading the game did about that was hilarious. And the sound acting too.

Long, long ago I played Xentar but it didn't hit for me and the impression that I was left with was "the game that spoofs fairy tales".
I didn't get very far, obviously.

>> No.5902318

Of course it can be translated. Just be a good translator.

If you aren't one yet, I hope you're honing your skills by doing a B-grade game instead.
