Is it just me or it was a lot more enjoyable than SMRPG? And I don't mean just because of the game, the editing seems a lot more slow phased, which helps a lot. I do hope they aim for a 3 parter though, because otherwise the next episode is gonna suffer.

I actually know the guys who did this. Don't worry, it's not a straight up russian to english. The Russian translate was a guesslation and they translated that to English, but then had that translated to Japanese to compare it to the Japanese script for accuracy, then that back to Russian and finally into English again - So it's accurate.

My vocabulary is pretty lacking but I decided to check out some parts of the episode to see if I could judge the translation. From what I've seen it's good other than the one part I stumbled upon in the side segment with the granny, she says to him at one time "You don't have to press it fast, try being a bit slower" yet they translated it as "That's too fast! Try it a bit slower.". It's not a big deal, just wanted to mention it.

Terribly, you missed the whole point. The expression here is literally "Overtaking, being overtaken", meaning neck and neck, the position is constantly going back and forth between 2 parties.. Repeating the latter makes it more like "overtaking, being overtaken... being overtaken again..."

Back and forth doesn't work as a translation here because it's a no context line. I suppose you could go with something like "back and forth, all the way to last place..." to maintain the joke without it sounding terrible or without context.

Regardless of how you would translate it, those opening lines are always in reference to something in the episode and often seem cryptic until you actually watch the episode. Haven't watched the Mother 2 episode yet, but I wouldn't be surprised; the SMRPG episodes were all boring slogs. The show is at its best when Arino is struggling, making dumb mistakes and getting "help" from the ADs, and the most noteworthy thing that happened while playing SMRPG was him missing the accessory in the pirate ship. The Ocarina of Time episodes were the same. Just tedious.

Here it's supposed to be "it's extremely difficult from the very start", but both this and various other similar errors seem more like the translator just either misheard or forgot what was being said as he translated rather than misunderstood what was being said.

Here's an odd one, this is an accurate translation of what's written on-screen, but narrator says a somewhat different line (KINGCUPだけで実に5時間を超える持久戦に, "He's actually been fighting a lengthy battle against the King Cup alone for over 5 hours now" or however you'd word it.)

This line is completely fine. Hell, reading your whining, I assumed it was just you misunderstanding 最初 or something in this context, but nope, you're just retarded. The nuance of "from the very start" really doesn't add much, the viewer can pretty much infer that if the first track is hard, the rest will be too. I think they do the inverse, translating what the narrator says even if it differs from the text on screen, but I'm not totally certain. They might translate both.

I have a similar track record and some overlaps with you. I've also suggested about eight games, half of which they eventually did. If they do one game from a series, they're probably going to wait at least a couple years before they do that series again. It might be a while before they get to your other Castlevania suggestions.

No clue if their decision had anything to do with my suggestions. Likely just overlap due to how popular they are. My guess is 1-2 years they'll do Rondo. Then 1-2 years later do Symphony. Rondo will be a 1 parter, but Symphony will be 2 parter.

What seems to happen behind the scenes is that the AD's read through these suggestions, and research the game centers and games mentioned. Part of their job will be to play through these games on their own to see if they are compatible with the series or not.

I agree in principle -- soft subs are more flexible, more configurable and can be corrected by other people down the road. On the other hand, it's not like I've put off watching something because I could only find hard subs.

As for the translation nitpicking -- keep it up, I get the sense that the translator would appreciate that sort of specific feedback. The guy claiming the translation is horrible or that this group is less "legitimate" than SA is clearly full of shit though. And translation quality aside, I'm happy for new subs.
