...I'll be nice.

Firstly, that music is from a non-duke game called Borderlands. The makers of the mod put that music into one of the levels, and I found that interesting. Second, I've been playing duke since 2000. Think what you will with that statement. Thirdly, that game is garbage, and I know pretty much everything there is to know about its development. I remember seeing the trailers for it back on tech tv. So, playing this mod really hits the nostalgia button, and it's something new.

To tell you the truth OP, I was really disappointed. I was expecting more, especially since they had been making it for six months almost non-stop.

There were a lot of glitches in the maps, and the game also crashed a few times for me. Clipping errors everywhere. Not only that, but to me it felt like a de-make of the actual trainwreck that was DNF, instead of a "restored" version in the Build engine. A lot of the levels were uncharacteristically linear for a Duke game, and even the larger ones had a surprising lack of secrets and hidden interactions.

Also, ripped music from Borderlands? Really? Why not fucking use music from the actual series, like something from Time To Kill western levels.

I can't say I had null enjoyment from it, since I played it through entirely. And I know it got it for FREE so I shouldn't be entitled.

>> No.584557

A lot of people will be/are disappointed like you because they were expecting too much just because it's based of a 2001 DNF trailer. It's still just a Duke3D mod made by 2 people during their spare time.

Too much expectations because of the name DNF just like the original game.

make sure there is no TILES0XX.art file in the directory

make sure the DUKE3D.GRP file is in the directory and is a valid one (you probably need the one from version 1.4 or 1.5 and not 1.3; you might want to download another one)

make sure you're launching the mod through the DNF.bat file

otherwise i'm clueless

played it and finished it, it's a nice enjoyable mod. Better than gearbox's dnf but this doesn't say much. It would be cool if this project would be expanded and made it into a full fledged game

the music in that part was way too shitty though.

as impressive as that was, you could already tell it was a game overly focused on cutscenes\scripted sequences, the gameplay in the trailer was mostly duke fighting up to ONE enemy at a time. I have the feeling that 2001 dnf would have been as shitty and the one gearbox released. It was an already doomed project I think

the problem to me is that the developers don't even realize that doom is still a great game, let alone what makes it so great. If you ask me they probably felt doom was inferior gameplay wise to everything because it was old and shit like no-fun based gameplay was a straight up improvement.

Croteam can make fun fps, I wouldn't call them retrostyle because they feel fresher than any modern fps, anyway serious sam 3 is great and in my opinion even better than the classics

What difficulty are you playing on? Ammo has always been scarce as fuck on 'come get some'.

>> No.594676

Boy, getting gang rapped by all those pig cops in tanks and the fire and ice Assualt Enforcers sure was fun

Other than that great mod! Was a bit disappointed that it had to end so abruptly after the damn exploded though

>> No.594713

Never had trouble with the tanks. It's not like you ever encounter them without sufficient cover.

Also RPG ammo wasn't exactly lacking.

>> No.594840

Mhh, I jumped over the truck and now I'm stuck in the strip club. Lots of health packs lying around, the orchestral music is unfitting and getting on my nerves.

Well, I never really liked Duke Nukem that much in the first place. I always preferred Doom and Shadow Warrior.

>> No.594954

Stuck? There's only one thing to do in the strip club. Didn't you grab the red keycard?

I have the GoG version from when it was free last year. How do I use this mod with that version?

Make a copy of the Duke3D.grp file, place it in the mod folder, and run the .bat file

couldn't be more simple

Yes and I used it too but I don't know which door opened. The one next to the card reader didn't open. I went back and there were a few enemies but no open door. There's too many closed doors in this mod.

>> No.595472

Now they just need to make new mods using the Quake II Engine and then the Unreal Engine Then the circle would be complete.

>> No.595769

Didn't you notice the security camera next to the card reader?

im downloading it right now

It's good. Short, but good.

Easy to understand why it's so short, it's based on a very brief trailer. Only so much they could do.

>> No.596586

Okay, I'm gonna feel really dumb asking this, but how do you exit the elevator in the first level, there's no door or anything

>> No.596617

>>596586

Press E or just use it when you're inside and you'll go up to the room with the key.

>> No.596641

>>596617
I hit E on the wall switch for the elevator, and it will take me down some distance and stop. Then I hit it again and I go back to the same room as where I came from (the security room with the shotgun)

>> No.596652

>>596641

I'm not sure if I mistook it for the last part with the switch you need to put an access card on to, which opens up the last gate when you turn left from the truck jump, but I'm sure all you have to do is

>go up
>get card and other stuff
>go back down to where the keycard point is
>swipe your keycard there
>ride straight into the huge open gate on the left side of that part of the stage.

>> No.596678

>>596652
I don't think so, I haven't seen a truck. I'm at:

>warp to EDF
>fight enemy
>get shotgun
>briefing in security room
>exit secure room and go to elevator
>enter elevator, it starts moving
>goes nowhere
>no exits
>hit button, it goes back to security room
>hit button again, goes back down to nowhere

I can't figure out what I'm missing. I've tried shooting all the walls and floors and ceilings, and jetpacking around inside. Nothing seems to do anything.

>> No.596683

Look for a small ventilation shaft somewhere and boot/shoot it open. Crawl from there and you should end up to the kitchen on the way to the main Casino.

>> No.596803

>>596683
oh, I found one of those but it seemed you couldn't crawl through. I'll have to try again. Thanks for the tip.
