I can't decide if I like Final Fantasy VII more than I like Ocarina of Time or if I like Ocarina of Time more than I like Final Fantasy VII.

It's an important decision. Kids back in the day based their own console generation choice on which game they wanted to play more. Me, I went with Playstation and it paid off since I was big into JRPGs at the time, but played OoT later and can see how that is also a valid choice.

I'm a Final Fantasy boy, myself. It holds up better as well. I've moved away from story-heavy games as I've aged to the point where something like OoT is more my speed now, but FF7 just has such a sense of adventure and fun to it that Zelda just can't compare.

I'm probably very much like you: I played FF1-FF6 and loved them, but now I've moved away from story heavy games. The difference between us would be that I never owned a PS1 as a kid, so I played through FF7 for the first time in high school. I was not too impressed: it feels like the CD medium made JRPGs bloat beyond all reason, while the stories remained mediocre and the gameplay uninspired. Not that I think that I would enjoy the older FF games much these days, but at least they were shorter, and a few of them have interesting level up systems and job systems.

FF7 came out relatively early in fifth been so it was more mindblowing, which I think plays a big part in why I like it better. If a person is looking back objectively without any nostalgia it shouldn't be too hard for them to decide since they're such different types of games.
