Someone from /v/ redirected me here

Hey, /vr/, real talk for a sec.

I'm about to buy an N64. I haven't had one in years since my parents made me sell mine when we moved to california.

Besides OoT, Majora's Mask, and Mario 64, what games should I definitely buy? It's been a while and back then I only had four games

Help me make a decision?

>> No.580369

I'm just gonna repost what I posted in your old thread in case you missed it:
Paper Mario
Donkey Kong 64
Diddy Kong Racing
Chameleon Twist 1 & 2
Snowboard Kids 1 & 2
Glover
Kirby 64
Star Fox 64
Super Smash Bros.
Pokemon Stadium 1 & 2
Pokemon Snap
Mario Party 1, 2, & 3
Rocket: Robot on Wheels!
Banjo Kazooie & Banjo Tooie
Rayman 2
Tony Hawk Pro Skater 1 & 2

Big list, but the N64 is my favorite console. Also I listed a lot of platformers/adventure/racing/sports<wbr> games on there. Any genre you're looking for specifically?

>> No.580364

Mario Party if you have friends.
Pokémon Snap, Micro Machines, Diddy Kong Racing, Conker's Bad Fur Day if you manage to find it.

Really anything.

I really loved the Zelda games on that, but like I said I'm already getting those.

Also, Rare games are something that completely gapped me. thanks for reminding me

I never played Paper Mario. Is that an RPG? I heard it's the spiritual successor to Mario RPG. Or was Superstar Saga the successor?

it is an RPG, I used to own it. Everything about it excellent. It still pains me that I don't have it anymore.

Fucking sold.

Another game on the list

>> No.580442

Goemon 64 and Goemon's Great Adventure
F-Zero X
Shadowgate 64
Turok 2
Star Wars Episode 1 Racer
Perfect Dark
Forsaken 64
Hybrid Heaven
Castlevania - Legacy of Darkness
Banjo-Kazooie
Banjo-Tooie
anything Mario
anything Zelda

as for the racers I think F-Zero X and Starwars Ep1 Racer are must-play games.

It's pretty much Mario & Luigi without Bros moves and multiple partners instead of just Luigi.

It's great. Also, not retro but consider buying the sequel on Gamecube, it's the first game, but better.

Things I haven't seen yet:

Yoshi's Story

I don't know why, I never got into Mario and Luigi series

they feel too much like standard RPGs, Paper Mario has that SM3 platformer charm. It's hard to describe but it's really a nostalgia trip for those of us who grew up with the NES and used to watch the Super Mario Show. There's just so many subtle references that other Mario RPGs don't have. Even TTYD, despite being more technically advanced.

>> No.580492

The Mario & Luigi's strongpoint is its humour. The games are full of it. Paper Mario has that too, but not as much. Also I'm a sucker for timing-based games, so I love being able to block / counter everything.

Yeah, I would but there's not too many games on gamecube that I want that aren't N64 ports besides SSB Melee and I have Res 4 on PS2

Also aren't gamecube discs rare these days? I haven't seen one since they discontinued them

If you like rasslin', WWF No Mercy is really the best wrestling game ever. Except maybe Virtual Pro Wrestling 2000, but that's Japan onry. Also, Shadow Man and Rakuga Kids are two great games as well, and Ogre Battle is great, but I hope you have some money if you want to buy it.

The N64 is a pretty cool console if it's the only console you own. Have fun anon.

>>580547
The only downsides to the game is that it uses the sub-par N64 D-pad and for a fifth generation 2-D games, it has that inexplicable N64 fuzziness to it; PSX and Saturn were just better at 2-D games.

One of the most underrated games on the N64.

>> No.580630

Ontop of Mischief Makers, I also recommend the Bomberman trilogy for the N64; of the three, the second game is probably the weakest, and the third game is a rarity; the cart can run you around 50-70 dollars, and there's very few listings for it on eBay. Still, if you can find them, they're all worthwhile.

Perfect Dark and goldeneye are pretty much essential if you have any interest in multiplayer. Mario kart and diddy kong racing are both good party games. Speaking of party games, you might want to look into mario party. Banjo-kazooie is simplistic from a gameplay perspective, but if you like charming environments and exploration then it's worth looking into. Turok has some pretty solid doom-like gameplay, and you get to shoot dinosaurs with a bow, so that's something. Super smash bros is another good multiplayer game. Paper mario is kind of like a JRPG, but fun. It's most notable for being the first game to really flesh out the mario universe and produce some interesting characters. Pokemon snap is basically a pokemon photography game, which sounds like shit but is actually really fun, kind of wish they made a sequel.

Am I missing anything? Probably. Nintendo 64 had an awesome library.

>>580724

Kind of silly that we have to go through the whole "dot net" descriptor to properly give people directions to sites that have tutorials and the like, but I suppose that's a discussion for /q/.

Anyway, I highly recommend... Anything made by Rare and Nintendo, pretty much. Thinking of something that no one's recommended yet, I'd say Harvest Moon 64 if you're into those kinds of games.

>> No.580996

Mystical Ninja. It's kind of weird though.

Off the top of my head:

Harvest Moon 64
Road Rash 64
Super Smash Brothers
Star Fox 64
Mario Party 3 (I know it's the most expensive of the 3 but it was the one I played the most)
Paper Mario
Mario 64
Wave Race
Vigilante 8 Second Offense (The first is okay too)
Top Gear Rally 2

I know there are way more I'm missing but that ought to get you started.

You're either trolling or have terrible taste. The N64 library is small but it has plenty of great games, many of which people have mentioned.

I want to second the recommendation of Jet Force Gemini. I think it's the best game Rare made on the system.

The three San Francisco Rush games are also fun as hell.
