So what exactly is the point of buying these things when emulation exists?

People like them, so they want to buy them.

You people are starting to get even more annoying that the 'fpga is not emulation' parrots

I'm not even one of these snooty retro game patricians but I understand why people like the NT. IMHO regular emulation is good enough for me but it does have some drawbacks and inconveniences for sure. The vast majority of games will run just fine but eventually you will come across those weird few that have a minuscule problem no one has been bothered enough to fix and doesn't affect game-play at all but the memory of that glitched text box still sticks in your brain, haunting you forever until your end of days.

So to avoid this some people just buy the NT :)

The DAC just seems superfluous. The point of these HDMI FPGA consoles is to get a similar feel to original hardware on HDTVs, while making it look nicer, because in the end, original hardware looks like shit on HDTVs. Many would just argue using a OSSC for this, but perhaps someone just wants the more specialized FPGA console. I get those existing. But the DAC? Just use original hardware if you're planning to play on a CRT.

But does it offer any improvements over emulation? Pardon the ignorance, it's that I don't know what exactly makes "FPGA" different from emulation.

It would if shit like BSNES didn't exist but right now, no. Emulators do everything this does and better.

>> No.5798416

>>5798385
Realistically, if an emulator of the highest level has that single issue with a random game, an FPGA will too.

Emulators and FPGA are made to replicate 1:1. Some cheaper (easier to run) emulators are just about being 'as close as possible'.

lol bsnes can't even run in full screen mode without screen tearing and sound issues.

Not to mention you need a very high end PC if you want to run it at the kind of accuracy level Super NT does as standard.

>jailbreak
You meant the company wants to support flashcart ROM piracy to their totally legit SNES clone, but in unofficial fashion.

There's a reason why all of these jailbreaks carefully left out the special Super Turrican ROM that would be unencrypted along the rest of the contents of the firmware had this been a legit jailbreak.

no you don't. my pc is 4 years old and even back then what I bought was considered lower midrange hardware. and I use higan, bloated unoptimized fucking higan, and it barely uses 10% of my system resources. explain to me how $250 + whatever a flascart cost to emulate 1 system is a bargain?

The Super NT forces you to choose between several modes of screen tearing or slowdown compared to the original hardware. This is not as bad as it sounds, but it is what it is. Not hating on the system, btw. Just combating some false advertising. The Super NT is a swell emulator box. There's also a lot of shilling going around lately.

Considering mid range laptops pretty much equals a mid range desktop in this era, you can just say mid range pc.
