Really?

While not onscure per se, Point Blank doesn't get talked about much. I would guess it's mostly because nobody has the PlayStation gun thingy anymore.

God Policenauts sucks! It's like a really bad Visual Novel. And I don't know, seriously, VN are like the easiest thing in the world to design. So when you design a bad one, that is remarkable.

Like the entire story of Policenaughts is not only a pixel hunt, but you basically have to try everything, and then try everything multiple times. So if you don't know this, like if you want to know about some photograph, you ask about the photograph, and she tells you something, and then you have to ask the same topic again. So that photograph entry can occur 3 or 4 times. And then you have to start from the beginning and try them all again because the third time might have opened something new up. And you have to exhaust every single option. ALL OF THEM. Before the game will let you move on. That is HORRIBLE.

It's not like an oldschool adventure game. Because in an adventure game you don't have to look at and inspect everything on the screen multiple times. You're just sitting there, desperately wanting to move on with the plot, and then you're stuck trying to inspect every little thing over and over again, and asking people the same questions over and over again. Ah it's bad. And when it finally gets exciting, it gets exciting for 20 seconds then you're right back at it.

Is the plot interesting? Not really. You know what the story is? It is 5% Blade Runner, 95% Lethal Weapon. It's straight up Riggs and Murtaugh. It's not even subtle. He rips off whole scenes. It's amazing.

>>5799112
You have some good points anon. But I really enjoyed this game. I loved the anime styling and I haven't played many point and click games besides Sam & Max on the 360. The buddy cop angle was fun too, though I've never seen Lethal Weapon so I didn't catch any plagiarism. Anyways, if there are better adventure games for the PS1, please let me know!

Policenauts is above average. average for these type of visual novel point n click games may not be good but still. There are really good ideas in policenauts that don't quite get fleshed out. Is it yuno/steins gate/phoenix wright good? Well, kind of. The art is good, the story concepts are interesting, the music is good. The gameplay is typical point n click from the era. The real downfall is that the story drops the ball once you start trying to implicate the corporate billionaire. But there are character interactions/relationships that are well done.

I played through snatcher and policenauts a long time ago and really like snatcher and hated policenauts. I played through both recently and grew an appreciation for policenauts and more apathy towards snatcher.

I know where you're coming from. After my first romp through Snatcher, I went out there and played through Famicom Tantei Club Part II, 999, phoenix wright, ghost trick, Princess Tomato in the Salad Kingdom, portopia nes, rise of the dragon, jb harold murder club, etc. After going through the genre, I ended up back at Policenauts and could appreciate more of what this game did despite its shortcomings. The real tragedy is that Kojima jumped ship to Metal Gear.

You are also right. But the thing is. Policenauts is just way too slow to navigate through. And a lot of the dialogues are sleep inducing.

That's the thing with visual novels: they aren't video games, which is what's implied by its own name! They're linear by design and the "click on shit repeatedly to move on" is just a way to give the player pretend interactions with the game. Point and click or text adventures are always a level above VNs since it's pretty clear they're all about the user actually interacting with the game in meaningful ways. Almost all jap VNs are BTFO by Zork or even Codename ICEMAN.

>> No.5801119

>>5801014
No, your shitty games are not a 'level above' anything. Nobody gives a shit about Zork or Zoink or whatever virgin shit you want to try and peddle. Visual Novels are not mostly point-and-click, they are often choose your own adventure type shit, Eroge, many have RPG or SRPG elements, etc... Nothing has ever been BTFO by Zonk's Quest 2: The Quest to Finally Touch a Tittie. And saying that shit is above Fate, Clannad, Rance, 999, etc... is a fucking joke.

This.
The only studios that still do this classic anime art style that come up on the top of my head are Studio Ghibli and Studio Ponoc (which was founded by ex-Ghibli animators and is still very close with many of Ghibli's collaborators like Nippon TV, Toho and Walt Disney Japan).
They even add subtle film grain and gate weave filters to their film to make them look more like vintage analog anime.
Mary and the Witch's Flower looks like a '90s anime even though it came out in 2017.

>>5798845
This.

>>5799502
The art is identical between the Saturn and PS1 versions, the difference is that they censored the boob jiggle in the PS1 version and it has no light gun support.
The FMVs are also better, running at 24fps instead of 15fps.
Saturn wins very so slightly when it comes to which version is best.
Especially due to the 24fps animated scenes.

Courier Crisis was actually one of my favorite games on the PS1, and I never hear anyone talk about it.
It's a really 90's game, bike couriers are really a dying breed nowadays, I hardly see them anymore.
