Apparently bsnes v108.1+ has overclocking now that doesn't increase the video or audio rate or break the games.

because of how the frames are drawn on the snes i dont think it'll ever be more than having a fast forward effect. but outside of that, i dont get a reason you'd want to overclock the system in a modern sense. if its to remove the slow down like on gradius 3, there are rom and emulator hacks already.

For the Starfox example, I forget which version of ZSNES but playing it in that has produced the same effect that I've seen in this video. Perhaps it's due to imperfect SuperFX emulation, I'm not sure really. The game feels more responsive but also just too damn fast at times.

Is somebody here familiar with the widescreen mode in BSNES-HD?
I'm trying FF5 at the moment and it does allow widescreen but only if I set Ignore Window to outside&always, in which case the game menu isn't displayed. I can change the IW fallback x-coordinate to 216 so it displays the commands but lose the status display in return.
I suppose I don't need the commands that often and can turn it off when necessary but it could be easier.

The only time I prefer slowdown is when it's intentionally used for dramatic effect or even unintentionally creates a dramatic effect, like during explosions or intense moments. If it makes a game easier I usually consider that a drawback, though the trade-off is sometimes worth it.

Star Fox on hardware is pretty much always running under slowdown. The target framerate is 20fps, but you almost never actually hit that.
IIRC, ZSNES clocks the SuperFX at twice the speed it's supposed to run at.
