5795765 No.5795765 [Reply] [Original]

This releases for Switch on the 9th and will hopefully have a midnight release tonight.

What does /vr/ think of this game?

Single Player is very tricky, the new versions are a little better to navigate through. Multiplayer is great. The game overall is pretty good but rough around the edges

This game gave me headaches, literally, something with the camera really makes me nauseaus, could never play for more than 30 minutes without feeling ill.

>> No.5795907

I loved Turok 1 and was looking forward to Turok 2, even springing for an expansion pak to get the hi-rez modes after GamePro magazine said that "you must see Turok 2 in hi-rez to believe it!" Even with the 2 foot draw distance with fog, Turok 1 had a pretty consistent 30 fps, but Turok 2 chugs at 15 fps with barely a noticeable difference in hi-rez mode. Wasn't nearly as fun to me as Turok 1 was. Very disappointing as a kid.

That's because Turok 2 was the Crysis of its generation. It's actually pretty incredible what they did with the hardware given.
That said, I prefer the Remaster BY FAR.

>>5795765
first one is better
2 and 3 are still good.
the PC remasters are the best way to play them.

I played the remastered version of the 2nd game first, because I'm an idiot.
The level design drove me insane in parts but I really liked it. I ended up playing a couple hours of the original on N64 tonight and I think I like it even more, but felt so spoiled by the modern ports that I just picked up the remaster. Any chance of the 3rd game getting the same treatment or should I just buy the cart?

>> No.5797320

Welp, I don't think it had a midnight launch. It's still unavailable.

>> No.5797664

The Switch version doesn't have multiplayer.

>> No.5797694

I just beat the first level. It was quite long and I can see how getting lost might be an issue. But I'm intrigued to see what else the game has to offer.

Both Turok games are on sale now on Switch but the deal is kinda small tho. Are they worth it?

I'm now playing the second level, 'River of Souls'. I've completed both missions (destroy 3 sisters of despair and destroy 2 soul gates). What do I do now? Am I just supposed to exit the level? Is there a certain portal I'm supposed to go through?

>> No.5798298

>>5798291
My memory is hazy, but I think with stage 2 onwards you need to exit through the teleport you entered.

Thanks, I just managed to find it. Afterwards I had to protect an energy totem from enemies but I'm back in the hub now. That level was seriously long but still fun.

Very low. Turok 1 and 2 actually had a PC port back in the day and based autists used it to create the remaster versions of 1 and 2. Turok 3 did not.

the cerebral bore is the most fucking bad ass weapon in video game history I loved using that thing I really liked T2 as a kid its amazing what they were able to do with the N64 one thing is for certain if it came out on PC it would have blown both unreal and thief out of the water kick ass game but it had horrible hardware limits its pretty crazy how far they were able to push the N64

It did come out on PC back then. The consensus is that PC players were unimpressed with the game and felt that it was "too console like".

>> No.5799032

Did any of you people buy both Turok games on Switch now that they're on sale?
Is the price worth it or should I wait for a hypothetical bigger deal for them?

>> No.5799119

Played the PC version back when it came out and a remaster of this game was desperately needed. The N64 version is practically unplayable nowadays for me with the low fov and constant sub 15FPS frame rate it drops into the single digits at times. It holds up really well especially being able to play it at a stable 60 without dealing with the old pc port.

>> No.5799289

>>5798885
Uh. No it wasn't /v/. Gonna give you a hint, kid. Only /v/ermin such as YOU even think that's a thing let alone care about some arbitrary divide between console and PC rather than ENJOYING FUCKING VIDEO GAMES. You losers really irk me. Like, seriously dude stop being a hater it's not cool you're just an edgy twat.

I just beat The Death Marshes. I collected an item buy giving an offering (a feather) to the spirit. It gave me an item which seems to correspond with panels found throughout the levels. The thing is I'm not sure how to use them. I have the water item but when I go to panels that match it nothing happens. How am I supposed to use it?

>> No.5799569

As a kid it was one of the few games that I actually thought was scary and hard. Could never get past the second level, so I just had fun with cheats and blowing up dinosaur heads with cerebral bore.
Years later I played the PC remake and it felt much easier than what I experienced as a kid, finished it with no problems.
Anyways I think its the best game in the franchise.

I'm pretty sure that one auto enables when you jump into the water. It's really simple to test. Without the emblem for water, you would die if you jumped in.

Turok 1 is the better game. Turok 2 has a bad case of the levels getting less and less interesting as you get further, and key hunting is much worse in it.

Turok 2 on N64 was always interesting to me because graphically it was pretty nuts what they were doing. But the framerate is so low that it impacts gampelay.

>>5795793
All console FPS games of that era have extremely close draw in. Not sure why Turok gets so much shit on that. I guess people just prefer cutting to solid black.

So, are these worth it at the tiny deal they have right now?

>> No.5799926

>>5799918
I played Turok remastered on PC and enjoyed it greatly. At 70 fps, it was like an entirely different game, and the design feels like its meant to be played fast (respawning enemies).

Can't comment on Switch, but as much as I love the platform, it has trouble with framerates because its mobile chipset. Of course, even the lowest drop will be higher than the highest on the N64, so there's that.

>> No.5800464

>>5799820
The entire generation is guilty of fog of war, but you need to creatively work with it for it to not stick out as much. Turok was a jungle that faded to a wall of blue. Fading to black during night time is better. What it should do is fade to a nice skybox.

>> No.5801598

OP here, I'm playing level 5 (Hive of the Mantids) and I've had to do what I was hoping not to, use a guide. It feels like I've scoured this level but I still don't know what to do. Is there something I'm missing? The mission objectives are destroy the queen embryo and destroy the computers (I think). I've come across things that look like computers but they don't break when I shoot them. I'll try reading through a guide but do any /vr/os know what to do?

Also I accidently skipped level 4 and am doing this one first, if that makes a difference.

LAIR OF THE BLIND ONES made me quit the game on the n64 multiple times. I got lost over and over in the water tunnels. The PC port makes pretty big changes to this level, but prepare your anus for the longest and most maze like level in the game.

How does the PC version differ from the N64 original? i wasn't able to spot any major differences in that level, then again my memory was bad.

People criticized the lack of PC specific keybindings and the abysmal draw distance. There are very few reviews of this game from way back when still available on the internet.

Ya that is an un interactive background designed to look like its an open area. But its not. Its just an illusion due to hardware limitations and the artists/programmers design talents.

Goldeneye was my 2nd or 3rd favorite N64 game so I'm not bashing it.
