What does /vr/ think of this fighting game? I never got into it because of the lack of combos. Kim was my main tho.

I love it. Fatal Fury 2 and FF Special are the cooler, underdog classic fighting games.
Garou is overrated because of its high frame animation, gameplay is good but it's like a simplified Fatal Fury. It's not better than Real Bout Special or RB2, and I also prefer Special over Garou.
FFS is a classic that never gets old.

I don't think MOTW plays like fatal fury at all, for one there's no chain links combos w/e or plane switching. Also MotW supers are standardized instead of the retarded inputs + BC you're expected to do within a leaking bar time limit in RBFF

FFS is pretty much the father of KoF, it's one SNK's most important games for this reason alone.

explain quickly the links between fatal fury, art of fighting and KOF

You posted a pic of FF2 but your thread title is FF2 Special. FF2 did not have combos, but FF2S had combos. Doing combos in FF2S is easy and very fluid.

FF2 wasn't that great, but FF2S was a huge hit back in the day and with good reason. It added combos and the gameplay was rock solid.

One of the best 16bit fighting games. Both 2 and 2S also have a fuckton of homeports that each feel pretty unique, unlike street fighter 2.

The pce port of ffs is the best console port but the snes version is well worth playing. Sega cd is kinda shit but it’s also the easiest port

FF2 on genesis (not special) got a bunch of new weird features like turbo speed, juggle combos and simplified desperation inputs. Shame takeda didn’t port special

Garou feel like a SF III+ king of fighter fusion.

Art of Fighting is a prequel to all the above taking place in Southtown sometime around the 1970s. Fatal Fury is Southtown in the contemporary era with Marco/Butt being the modern disciple to Kyokugen karate. KoF is a separate canon that mishmashes them both into the same timeframe.

It's basically a Street Fighter game with short hops and that's it. It's still impressive for getting a high-framerate fighting game to feel as responsive and fluid as its predecessors, though, since a lot of the other examples were weirdly floaty and/or jerky.

Ryo Sakazaki from AoF also makes an appareance in Fatal Fury Special as a secret final boss.
I believe this was the very first instance of a crossover in a fighting game.

You're right. It's been a long time since I played it, and OP's title confused me. But you know what I meant you smartass.
