>55 characters, but only 9 of them are new, others use models and animations from the older Capcom games
>Only one single ending in the arcade mode which all the characters share
>Just 9 stages (though they are very beautiful to look at)
>Online multiplayer not working in North American version
>Apart from usual arcade ladder the only other modes are pretty limited practice mode and arcade, but with timer
>Having to tediously grind points to unlock all the characters (was fixed in X360/PS3 remaster where everyone is unlocked from the start)
>Intro cutscene is just one of the game's trailers
>Main menu looked very simple and ugly, one of the worst I've ever seen (once again it was completely remade in X360/PS3 remaster, that new menu is alright)

I mean the game itself is fun and despite all the reused models large playable roster is very impressive even now, but it feels like one of the laziest and cheaped games I've played, why nobody ever acknowledges that?

>> No.5790692

Wow i've been playing the game recently and i feel your pain they really had TWO wolverienes? they could've used that spot for someone else like
Night Crawler
Black Widow
Beta Ray Bill
Thor
Black Panther
She Hulk
Captain Marvel
Silver Surfer
the list goes on but i enjoy the game
My maines are Cyclops, Storm, and Spiral.
Sometimes i switch out Spiral for Psylocke. I do enjoy playing as Iceman and Omega Red

I know what you mean, like how each character doesn't have his own theme music or stage, it seemed like they cut corners to facilitate having such a big roster.

The Capcom arcade studio was on their last legs at that point. MvC2 and CvS were basically their last hurrah.

I still prefer mvsc2 on dc with custom music tracks over the shit show that was mvsc3 must play online to unlock things for the game. which is x10 times worse game design than unlocking shit thru grinding points. . least I can sit offline and beat arcade made over and over without needing to login to a server that's no longer around to unlock those last 2 people/costumes i'll now never get. fuck online requireed unlocks and the direction that game went... also had shit char selection and wasnt that good

>> No.5796570

>had shit char selection
I can agree with everything else, but this is absolute pleb taste
its much better to see characters like arthur, haggar, dormammu and ghost rider over boring shit like 20 x-men and street fighter characters

>> No.5796615

I had a lot of fun playing it on the Dreamcast. The actual fighting was great, and that's what matters. It isn't among my absolute favorite fighting games because I felt the series was a little too easy.

Still it is a must own for DC and makes Ultimate Marvel v. Capcom 3 look like the garbage it is.

Gameplay.
It rocked to play, all the rest came second to that in the end. All those things you mentioned I wholeheartedly agree with.
Not so much the bone/metal claw wolverine thing. I liked the iron man/war machine
blah blah's
made for friends who were less invested to learn a character and then have two roster slots filled rather than having to learn more if they struggled or werent willing to

MVC2 has a unique magic to it that I've never experienced in any other fighting game.

You have to play the game for a fair amount of time to really feel it, but there's definitely a special something there.

I'm the type to go all armchair game design autist and dissect and analyze all the things I like about a game and why I like them...but MVC2 has a special something that I can never really unravel or put into words. Closest I can say is that there's a certain "dynamism" to matches where even in 100 matches in a row against the same person in the same session, each match still finds some silly way to surprise you and tun everything on its head.

Even today, I never get tired of playing it with friends and it never stops surprising me.

>> No.5800026

>>5800014
I feel the same way.

>> No.5800235

Controversial take but I prefer a large roster to a totally balanced fighting game.

Of course I’m a casual, but then so are most players.

I’m sure what I’m saying could upset quite a few hardcore players, but whatever.

>> No.5800243

>>5800014
I know people hate the "soul" buzzword tossed around, but it's fitting to use when you can't explain why something feels good in logical terms. MvC2 has that.
