I agree, I think that "now that 8 gen is out, dreamcast will be considered retro" line on the rules was a mistake, it makes people mistakenly think that as new generations come out, new generations will be added on /vr/. People decrying the ps2 as "not retro" love to act like there is any meaning whatsoever to the cutoff date. Like the dreamcast, ps1, and all the consoles from before 1999 share some quality that is exclusive, and anything 2000 or after lacks this quality. This is in spite of the fact that the ps2 was released only a single year after the dreamcast, and if the dreamcast weren't so thoroughly underpowered and underwhelming it would have had a lifespan, and library of games not terribly unlike the ps2.

Nah, that would still be way too recent. We'd have to start with like games from 2000 to 2005 or something, then go forward a year or two at a time, because otherwise you still just have very recent things there.
At the point we are now, late 7th gen games from 2019 aren't going to be different enough from whatever starts at the next gen.
