OSSC...Framemeister...Retrotink 2x....cannot decide how to upscale. Help...

Set your emulator upscaling settings to the highest available for your display and apply shaders as necessary.

Sorry, you have the wrong TV. Get the kind that's cube-shaped next time, instead of being a fucking idiot.

Depends on how you want to play. I got a Retrotink 2X because I play a lot of composite systems, and I don't really give a shit about the resolution, just about lag. The 2X does 480p with only a few scanlines of lag and that does the trick for me. My TVs and monitors scale 480p just fine, and if I need more
down the road I'll buy a chinese 'knockoff' OSSC for $135 and daisy chain them.

Playing on a CRT is not about scanlines, stop watching youtube and actually play on one to see what it's like you mongoloid.

>> No.5781467

Get a good, large CRT with Component inputs.
For 480p/720p/1080i content (mostly for Dreamcast since the other analog-only 480p/720p/1080i consoles aren't retro yet), get an OSSC and play it on your HDTV or 4K TV.

>> No.5781674

>>5781467
Shit advice.

Most TVs are fine upscaling 480p/720p/1080i content on their own. The OSSC can't even output at 4k, so whatever 720p or 1080p output is going to have to go through your TV's upscaler regardless.

The entire reason these upscalers exist is that TV manufacturers don't give a shit about upscaling bastard non-mainstream formats like 240p.

>> No.5781760

I got an OSSC and I definitely think it's been worth it so far.

>> No.5783290

If you willing to spend hours of your life on endless recalibration for every single fucking game — get a Framemeister. OSSC flicker is obnoxious as hell.

>> No.5783310

>>5783290
Don't feed a PS2 into it and you should be fine

>> No.5783473

>>5781674
Many newer TVs don't have Component inputs now.
You may as well use an OSSC just to restore analog inputs to your TV.
The RetroTINK 2X doesn't support 480p and above.

Pay attention to the inputs. I never see this talked about and it's a big deal (and also why I own both because I didnt pay fuck attention).

The Retrotink accepts composite, S-Video, and Component. However, the maximum input resolution is 480i, so no Xbox here.

The OSSC accepts VGA, component, and SCART. There is no input resolution maximum as far as I know.

So just be aware of any cables or adapters you need to buy going in.

>>5783828
The input support is the first thing anyone talks about when comparing these things. How the fuck did you miss that?
>There is no input resolution maximum as far as I know.
Input pixel clock is limited to 165 MHz, so 1080p or 1600x1200 at 60 Hz.

Decent tvs (generally in the $1,500 - $3,000 range) do scale just fine. They just lack older inputs most of the time unless you pay even more of a premium.

>> No.5784061

>>5783986

Not everyone has low standards like you. I've never bought a TV that didn't have "older inputs". I don't know if this is actually a thing and burgers really pay $3k for a TV that doesn't have fucking everything of it's it's just tardlets who threw away the adapter cables.

Framemeister is outdated trash that still lives through it's brand name. Unless you love cutting to black for 2-3 seconds every time there's 240/480 resolution change.

>> No.5784134

We did, a crt is best. If you want second best, first buy an ossc, then a retrotink.

>> No.5784153

>>5781227
not op but i have a PVM and it's tough going back to it after using the OSSC. it just feels better using a bigger screen.
but holy fuck ossc is garbage for 480p stuff. line2x for 480p is just trash and I do not recommend it at all.

>> No.5784443

Are you going ossc via RGB and turning your flatscreen into game mode??

>> No.5784470

my 4k tv is garbage dude. forces widescreen on 480p 2x and has no "game mode." aspect ratio options are only a tiny box and widescreen. I really need a new hdtv

>> No.5784480

>>5784470
Yeah, get one that goes into 4:3 with a game mode. LG and Samsung TV's usually have those features.

>> No.5784546

guess ill buy a new lg tv then thanks anon. any particular models you suggest that have low lag and are 65" or higher?

>> No.5784567

>>5784470
It might be like mine, where it only allows 4:3 for resolutions it recognizes as 4:3. I got 2x480p to look good by turning on upsample2x and then setting the h.samplerate to 780 and h.active to 640, essentially making a 1280x480 generic sampling mode.

Im not that fag, but the TCL 4 Series/S425, the 2019 edition, is a mid level tv by all regards. For poors that want 4k. The thing is it has gaming monitor VA panel delay. 12ms total delay, which is about where current gaming displays are.

If you do some more research you can find slightly more expensive sets that do 120hz at 1080p as well, for pc gaming. Places like rtings.com have tables with this information. (their new table page is sort of messy right now though.)

A part of the HDMI 2.0/2.1 standard now is 120hz at 1080p, but not all sets do it. Another standard of the last few years is supporting 'legacy' resolutions like 480p and lower, since so many sets abandoned it. Last thing is 1440p support (1440p@120hz if hdmi2.1).

>> No.5784581

>>5784134
What exactly is a CRT best at? A 1955 monochrome magnified 4 inch set is best at... what?

Pretty sure CRT only benefit from native res support and no delay (on older sets). Everything else has been superseded by alternatives for a while now.

im still triggered by the forced widescreen but i never knew about upsample2x. this is actually doing the iq many favors.
