Also, I'd say that SMB2 (USA) was pretty instrumental in increasing the popularity of the Mario series. I'd say it was one of the most important games ever made. It gave Mario a reputation for being varied and fun instead of being a low-effort and frustrating game that nobody wants to buy. Lost Levels made for fantastic bonus content in All Stars, too.
