Why "Point'n'click" tag applies only to adventure games, whereas shit like picrelated is literally pointing and clicking? The same applies to strategy games

same reason why we don't call every game where you play as a character a role-playing game

>> No.5759105

>>5759083
Strategy games have a lot of click-dragging to select groups of objects and move the screen/map around. Also the pointing isn't as specific. Adventure games are the only games where you really just point and click and the pointing is very specific and a main part of the gameplay.

Because the term came about specifically to distinguish them from earlier adventure games that used a text interface

This! Why the fuck don't they call first person shooters point and click shooters? Or point and click puzzle games? Or point and click card games? Fucking underrated genre.

Is that an American thing? We always called them King's Questlikes or PTGs

I was just playing this multiplayer. It's such a great game. The team aspect is just so much better than 2 or 3 because you're fucked if you don't stick in a tight group and fall back together. Over a short run of 5 levels we had multiple close calls of going through every potion and falling back multiple times against bosses.

Only downside is that it's kind of hard to see monster immunities as a mage and pick the right spells, and charge bolt is hard to aim without killing your friends. I wish you'd start with lightning instead

With sorcerer, firebolt is your mealticket at lower levels, because of your fast casting speed and comparatively low mana consumption (it's also a common book and you should be able to level it up quite often due to your inclination for the Magic attribute, which you should be spending on).
I don't remember there being many immunes early on in the game, at least not until halfway through the catacombs, so more often than not you should still be able to bruteforce a resistant enemy, unless you're cornered.

Lightning is a higher tier of spell than firebolt and charged bolt, so it wouldn't really be fully balanced to start you with it. The spellbook should be easy enough to find at early levels however. Charged bolt is kind of decent for just spamming out towards a general direction, but in multiplayer this can be a problem indeed, I'm hoping you would have someone with a bow to help take the slack off of you if you're having trouble engaging enemies, in return you could try to support them with heal other and maybe going and grabbing potions for them.

Actually uh, looking at your screenshot you're playing The Hell, which changes up the rules and gameplay a lot.

I remember I played it way back when it was new, and though it was really cool, I found it was way too difficult for my tastes. Of course I wasn't that good at games back then.

I've always referred to Diablo as a point 'n click RPG. It's sure as fuck not an action RPG with those controls.

Is it not? It's primarily focused on fighting, you use the mouse to move and attack, and use hotkeys for items and spells.

Yeah it's a good deal harder. You need to constantly switch spells for immunes. Warriors also need to use maced against undead and swords against beasts or else your damage sucks.

It does help differentiate the classes though. The warrior is now a way better tank than anyone else by miles, so you end up with pretty strategic multiplayer.

I guess at higher levels the warrior also needs a third weapon set with a full resist shield and mana leech to deal with telekilling witches, mages, and litches.

>> No.5764686

>>5762248
Don’t forget the sorcerer can do some nice damage with a shield.

>> No.5764757

>>5762343
You use the mouse to suggest things for the character to attempt to do on his own using AI and pathfinding. You don't control the character. In an action game of any sort you need to actually control the character, actions being the result of direct input. Push key, go in that direction, let go of key movement ceases, the character in an action game generally doesn't take actions without concurrent input.

So it's got the RPG mechanics but not the action part, therefore it can't be an action RPG.
