So much about that game was so terrifying.

On a tangentially related note, I remember spending ages at that AT-ST fight because I didn't realize I could aim up at the cockpit. I was just shooting the legs for miniscule chip damage for ages.

It's considered a nightmare fuel moment in video games. The whole game has moments like that though. The AT-ST boss in the 2nd level is also quite memorable.
Probably most people fear the sewer boss the most, but personally, FUCK that drone boss in the second to last stage with 3 phases. Fuck it.

It still has a great atmosphere and captures the feel of classic Star Wars.
Gameplay was always janky, it's not a matter of "held up" or "aged", the on-foot levels were always so-so.
Hoth battle is still great though.

I'm not so up-to-date on my Star Wars lore, but does ig-88 ever actually make sounds like that? This game seemed pretty good about using official sound clips.

Anyway, I can't fucking beat the swoop gang level.

Surely there was some spinoff material that he had a bigger presence in? He seemed like a character that had some kind of presence among hardcore fans. That can't just be because of a toy and a four second appearance can it?

You underestimate the obsessive behavior of StarWars fanatics. Every single character to make it onto the big screen ended up with some giant backstory to somehow make them story relevant even if all they were was a throwaway background character. Like remember the defective droid Luke almost bought from the Jawas instead of R2D2? Well now hes the first force sensitive droid in the galaxy and he was able to see the flow of destiny and understood the gravity of R2's mission in delivering his message. So in a final act to save the galaxy he self destructed making the ultimate sacrifice and ensure all of the events that would come to pass.

Its retarded, don't go down the rabbit hole of StarWars.

Rogue Squadron technically allowed you to shot down AT-AT with regular old blaster cannons, but they made it such a long, painstaking process of grinding them down that you were better off using Tow cables

Can confirm. Basically, every single character in the ANH cantina scene ended up with their own supplemental story, even if they weren't even on the screen for a full second. ALL of the bounty hunters in that scene in ESB ended up with supplemental material

There's a good reason why Disney trashed the EU. It was mostly so that they could make room for their own trash, but also because there were decades upon decades of endless fanwankery

I preferred Highsinger from the Clone Wars series. He's got a good combination of a retro, almost 'Metropolis' aesthetic and a sinister vibe due to his uncanny design. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ntUwZAdKOQ4

That comic was actually non-canon even before the Mouse buyout, and was essentially a parody mocking the exact phenomenon you're mentioning.

I don't remember it like that. I remember IG-88's interference causing the Death Star to miss because he unintentionally slowed it a bit when he was forcing his way in. He was planning to fuck the Rebels up right after he took control of it, but just as that happened and IG was thinking "The Galaxy is fucked now," Lando and Wedge blew the core reactor. He didn't intend to save anyone, and just had really shitty timing.

Funnily enough, the story of the force sensitive droid was from the new canon, although the book it was featured in was a sort of tongue in cheek collection of short stories. It was meant to be sort of goofy. Hell, there's even a transgender trash compactor monster.

He has a canon voice now. God help us, it's only in Forces of Destiny.

He also had a one-shot chapter in the Age of Rebellion comics that gives more depth to how he operates. The kind who'd rather kill than capture, and who'd take advantage of his being a droid if it benefited the hunt (lets himself get destroyed and taken as a prize by his prey just to hit them at home and wipe them all out in one fell swoop).
