I need to tap into your infinite wisdom /vr/,
When I hook up my psone to my Sony Trinitron PVM-14N5U I get these distorted little fuzzy bars that rise to the top of the screen. I have tried to different AV cables, one with s-video, the other with RCA.
What would cause this?
How can I stop this?

I would google it but I have no idea what the technical term for the fuzzy bars is.

ITS CALLED NOSTALGIA

>> No.575426

ok well, step one, try a different TV

>> No.575428

every other console i play does not include fuzzy bars, including fellow 5th gen consoles

my snes did it temporarily then stopped, don't know what would cause this. pls dont sage.

Check the connections at the console and the tv.

as in unplugging and plugging? i've done it a few times.

this is my only tv

I'm guessing the tv is shit

>> No.575460

Check that the black level is set correctly on the monitor.

Check that the console and monitor are properly grounded.

Check that the AV cable and port are clean.

It's caused by a ground loop, AKA an electrical problem. That's all I know sadly, but it gives you something to work with.

All I can say is that it's a sign of natural wear and tear.

>check
are you using that switch box? try connecting the console directly to the tv, also that no other wires are near the a/v cable

oh thats right, sometimes cables can interfere with each other if they are touching

>> No.575521

nope that's just an old power strip.
also, i am know that i don't want any other wires near the av cable

could it be that i have a power strip sitting right on top of my tv lol

What, when you click on OP's pic it actually self rotates. It happened tons of times before and I don't still get why does it happen.

well yeah, anything electrical will have a magnetic field around it. Move the strip onto the ground

>> No.575769

The power strip is creating an electromagnetic disturbance. Move it far away from the TV.

it is now outside of the room and still getting some interference.
I live somewhat close to a radio tower, could that possibly be the source of my problems?

he was trolling
but living next to a radio tower could do that, yeah, I think there are some real techniques to combat the interference but I don't them.

>> No.576095

welp, i found an old tv
and it's doing the same thing.
do i need a new psone? :-(

i can tell you i seriously did not do that

Did you move that switchbox onto the new TV (maybe there's some magnetic interference)? Are you using that switch box on the other TV? Maybe the switchbox is the problem. Your last chance would be getting an RGB converter for your PVM monitor so it doesn't even encode stuff so in the case the PS1 doesn't encode properly the signal should be clear as day.

try blowing on the CD

nope switchbox hasn't been part of my testing at all. this model of pvm only has s-video.

Try taking it into your basement, that might eliminate some of the interference.

I knew a guy that lived next door to where a local radio station set up shop. The signal was so strong, he would be able to clearly hear the radio broadcast through completely unplugged speakers, and it would distort just about every electronic he used.

If I remember right, he wound up just lining his entire apartment with copper mesh, and that cut down the signal interference quite effectively.

>> No.576349

>>576271
still happens
>>576317
wow i hope that isn't a true story.
it only does it with psone though, saturn, and n64 work fine as well as everything prior.

He once told me that if the apartment was really quiet, you could listen to the broadcast through the toaster.

>>576349
Your PS1's output is likely the problem, if multiple cables show the same interference, but other console's don't. You could crack it open and see if there are any glaring problems, if you feel you have the aptitude.

>> No.576462

>>576443
i certainly have the aptitude
i just have a feeling, whatever is causing the problem is far from glaring.

I'm talking puffy caps, cracked resistors... Stuff like that, not giant scorch marks.

Failing that, there's always going through each component and making sure it's running at its specified rating.

I pick up short-wave radio on my old box speakers all the time. It sounds mostly like twelve year olds talking about their balls and yelling "YOOOHOOOO" and occasionally the one pedophile trying to get the boys to talk about their balls or trying to get them to meet up with him.
