What are /vr/'s thoughts on TwinBee?

Yahoo is as beautiful as it is frustrating. I think ultimately the series completely fails at being an accessible shooter for kids while still trying to pander to older otaku.

The western community will never go anywhere near it because it's too gay for them I suppose. At least Rainbow Bell Adventures was a good Sparkster clone.

I didn't play much of the series, but the first TwinBee on famicom was one of my favorites as a kid and I can still get lost in it for hours, juggling bells with all these sparkling and mesmerizing sound effects, and bold, colorful graphics.
It's a very simple arcade game, can be pretty easy once you're powered up although it can get crazy on later loops.
I've played TwinBee 3 and it was a lot more bizarre than the first game, it was alright, but maybe it's because I'm so used to the original that I prefer it.
I have yet to play the later ones. Someday.

Pop'n is the perfect 'play with a buddy who isn't even that great at shmups' game. Best ost too. I remember seeing full page ads in Euro games mags for Rainbow Bell Adventures and adoring the art. Shuzilow.HA is an absolute god of colourful, charming art with SOUL. They made Twinbee go from middling shmup beginnings to multimedia franchise.
