You have no idea how badly I wish I could show you just how many worthless beta beta dumps of Playstation games trade hands in prototype trading circles. Some games literally have 10-30 beta versions dumped, but the differences are so minor nobody cares beyond keeping them around so people can check if it's a new version when another one turns up. The difference between them is usually like one minor bug fix. NOBODY cares about those beta versions, not even for archival (unless it's a rare case where a developer dumps EVERY revision of a game, in which case it's pretty interesting to see how many times a game from that era would get revised). They're only sought out on the off chance that they actually contain something significantly different than the base game.

I think that's the big fallacy that the shitposters like the use. Even most of the hardcore preservationists don't particularly care if version 1.234 is lost if they already know there's only one line of difference between it and 1.233 that fixes some obscure-ass glitch. The problem is that you just can't tell if a revision is significant enough to bother making a big deal out of until you get your hands on it.
