I played the PS1 Demo on some demo disc back in the day and decided it was shit. Ugly blocky graphics that looked like they were built with lego blocks and absolutely atrocious controls.

What's to "defend"? Nobody is complaining about this game whereas with 64 there has always been dissatisfaction at the direction they took the Mario franchise, and the fact that it offers zero challenge or resistance whatsoever, whereas Mario originally was a game that endeared itself to so many because it offered a decent platforming challenge.
