Hi guys,

I've assembled a big pack full of great old DOS games, there are 50 classics in here, most of which are shareware or abandonware.
In order to play these games, you will first need to install the latest DOSBOX.

Links to download: https://pastebin.com/gZ5zxz7M

All games come pre-configured, so you won't need to mess around with deprecated DOS commands or sound channel settings.
There are shortcuts included for every game, just double-click to open them directly within DOSBOX.
Games included are too many to mention here but include classics such as Doom, Quake, WackyWheels, Magic Carpet etc.

Happy playing!

OP here, forgot to mention that the games should be placed under C:\DOSGAMES, else the shortcuts won't work (wrong path).

So first install Dosbox, then create a new folder in C:\ called DOSGAMES and unpack the .rar file in there, the included shortcuts should work right away

Doom (+ Doom 2 + Sigil WAD)
Quake
Wolfenstein
Tomb Raider
Duke Nukem 3D
Alien: Trilogy
Magic Carpet
Terminator Future Shock (+Skynet)
Descent 1, 2
Aladdin
Lion King
Mechwarrior 2
Commanche 3
Mortal Kombat 3
Super Street Fighter 2 Turbo
Command & Conquer 95
Wacky Wheels
Skunny Kart
Heretic
Powerslave (aka Exhumed)
Snoopy
Lords of the Realm 2
Warcraft 2

and many more that i can't think of right now, just see for yourself anon

Op here again, if for whatever reason the shortcuts don't work, here is an example of the manual way to start a game in Dosbox.

Let's say you want to start up Doom, which should be located in C:\DOSGAMES\DOOM, you should type the following in dosbox:

mount c C:\DOSGAMES\
c:
cd DOOM
doom

Dosbox will then run the Doom executable within Dosbox

If there's anymore questions regarding installing, i'll be here for a while to answer them

The reason the shortcuts aren't working is when you install the latest version of dosbox it adds the version. But once i renamed it they still don't work fully. There's better ways to make shortcuts of sorts like using .conf files.

>> No.5734615

>>5734587
Hi anon, OP here, DOSBOX should be installed in C:\Program Files\DOSBOX for my shortcuts to work (without version number, i forgot to add that in my post, my bad) Another thing that can screw up the shortcuts is the version of windows you are using, 32 or 64bit). I made the shortcuts on my 32bit computer, on 64bits windows it should be C:\Program Files (x86)\DOSBOX

Yes there is a possibility to make a shortcut in the conf. file too but these shortcuts are really user friendly imo (if paths are correct)

>> No.5734618

>>5734587
I just checked it on my 64bit computer and somehow the shortcuts were automatically converted to Program Files (x86) so i didn't have to alter them

I'm not saying you shouldn't exercise caution when downloading strange files from the interwebs, BUT false positives are a thing especially in hacked games. Dark Forces was a game that required a CD to play, and this might be a no-CD hacked version, so there's that to keep in mind.

OP here, should be a false positive, this EXE is a script to enable mouselook (up and down view) in Dark Forces (normally this is only possible with pageup/pagedown).

You don't have to use this if you don't want, there also is the original DOS executable, but then you will have to type it manually in the Dosbox prompt

and would like to extend my thanks for your efforts.

Though if I might suggest one thing: in the future, instead of the *.lnk files, just make up appropriately OS-agnostic .conf files. It'd likely be simpler for everyone, since they just have to do "dosbox -c whatever.conf" from the game directory. You can specify relative directories with DOSBox's "mount" and "imgmount" commands, so it's not a big deal; for example, from a title not in your collection:

imgmount D "CD/DARKEYE.CUE" -t iso -fs iso
mount C HDD -freesize 5000

This would imgmount that CD image and mount the HDD directory without caring about the "host" OS's file structure one bit, leaving that to DOSBox's internals instead.

A thought occurred to me just now: if you'd like to still make it "easy" or just make it ricey, and if the games can all share a configuration that is roughly identical overall, you could easily (though slightly tediously) write a menu-driven batch file run within dosbox to select the game, and then do and undo whatever mounts and such are needed for each title. I've written things like this for friends before; the basic idea is like:

echo Choose a game
echo A) Game 1
echo B) Game 2

choice /c:ab
if errorlevel 2 goto Game2
if errorlevel 1 goto Game1

:Game1
cd gamedir
game.bat
goto fin

:fin
echo Type "exit" to quit or start.bat to bring up the menu

"choice" is a built-in command, so no external tools are needed. Just a thought, anyway.

you should be able to do that without issue, when i meant configured games i ment i took the effort to manually run through the setup.exe of every game to set the sound card and configure mouse and keyboard for WASD movement.

plus i added shortcuts (i recommend using these because some games only work when pointed to certain .bat file instead of the .exe) but other than that, most games are pure vanilla.

for doom and heretic however i added custom engines (MBF doom and Legacy doom engine) for better performance and higher resolutions.
dark forces is also using a custom utility to enable mouselook, so you have to use the correct .exe when you add it to your frontend.

I can't help but want to point out that if you want optimal performance while still keeping the vanilla feel (and near-perfect, bug-for-bug compatibility), consider ditching dosbox for Chocolate Doom (and Chocolate Heretic), which runs natively on any modern OS.

I'll poke around with it tonight. I see three things straight off though:

1. Aladdin doesn't seem to work at all; I get an XMS allocation error. Setting on my side? The setup.exe in that folder is for Windows for Workgroups, weirdly enough.
2. The symbols seem to get screwy. I'm pretty sure I got Wolf3D when I meant to select Worms. There might be a reserved character screwing something up, or an ordering issue. I'll have to look closer. Possibly related is that after erroneously selecting Wolf3D, the "X" key wanted to select WWF instead of quitting.
3. If I recall correctly, the %1 %2 bits you scattered everywhere are meant to pass along arguments, which we're not doing here; it should be perfectly fine to remove them.

Seems I was right about it being an issue of reserved characters. It appears that the game selection is broken by % fucking everything up initially and & being just plain unusable for whatever reason; the former is probably because it's being used internally like with your %1 earlier. Replacing them with \ and / seems to work just fine.

Also, Skynet seems to hang on my system as well.

Oh, additionally, LORDS2 seems broken for me entirely if I just run it like normal (simply exits), but WORMS works just fine in and out of the menu. I can't actually see the contents of your LNK files since they're not plain-text and I'm using a GNU/Linux system, so I'm not sure what you did to make LORDS2 work on your end.

This is better organized and seems to be more complete than Exodos. BUT is missing some CD rom games like Wing Commander 3 & 4 because they're "too big" I guess. Also it doesn't have loaders so it's not for zoomtards who can't work a dos prompt.

The 375gb exodos collection mentioned earlier in the thread.

Sry went afk for a while. Really though? That's weird because everything works fine on my end (except aforementioned 2 broken games), using 0.74-2 though perhaps this has something to do with it? Even the % symbol works fine for me. I don't know why Lords would work fine with my shortcut and not start up with the batch file, the path specified is literally the same, strange these inner workings of dos!

I'm using an SVN version of DOSBox, 0.74_p20160629, if that helps at all. LORD2 doesn't start at all with me. Both of these might be some minor configuration file differences; I'm not too sure.

For what it's worth, i got Lords2 working with the batch menu, problem lies in the Lords2.ini file, change cdpath=C:\Files to cdpath=LORDS2\FILES, guess it had to do with the batch being mounted as C:\DOSGAMES while the shortcut mounted the LORDS2 folder as C:\

You're right, that does the trick. If nothing else, today you've learned a lot about generalizing and testing. I'd say that's worth it.
