I don't think most collectors have that goal. At most they want every game of a particular system, but most people aim to get the best games of each systems, not full catalogue.
Also, you can still "display" your old stuff if you want.
Anyway, collectors can be anal, especially people who jumped the bandwagon late and expect good prices and complain about it, but people like OP who are visibly jealous are cringe.

Original PDS is overpriced now. Saturns, maybe. CRTs can gotten for free, but you can plug them into a PC anyway, and you can get free PCs that are good enough to emulate games of the PSX/Saturn/N64 era.
