It may seem like an initially ridiculous claim but personally I think it's the better Spider-Man experience. It's a crime that this game's photography and healing systems were never copied.
Despite adding a new dimension to play around with I think PS1 Spider-Man is a simpler game. They do really fun things with level design and boss encounters though, the script and voice acting are a lot of fun, and overall it just nails the tone. But there are certainly things about Spider-Man vs Kingpin that are better. It's a great game if you can look past the limited animation and fairly rigid boss encounters.
It won't ever be appreciated in the same way as PS1 Spider-Man, and I think that's understandable, but it really shouldn't be glossed over.

Yeah that's fair.
but they're both really good Spider-Man games.
in some ways I prefer how straightforward the Genesis version is, but it definitely looks and sounds much worse.
Also 10/10 cutscenes in the Sega CD version.

Depends on how you look at it I guess. Dialogue is entertaining sure but I don't like when they try to make Venom anything more than a villain. Spectacular Spider-Man's take on him was pretty much ideal for me but he isn't a barrel of laffs there.
