Which version is better, PSX or X68000?

Nobody owns (or has seen) an x68k and the emulator is notoriously hard to setup, so the PSX remaster is only reasonable option.

I played the x86k version on emulator and it was decent enough. The PSX version apparently changed simon's sprite to make him look like a girly man, so that kind of rules it out for me.

>Castlevania Chronicles

I really like the Arrange Mode. It's very balanced and fun and the music is dope.

Little known fact: the US version cut out some audio. The little dolls on stage six actually talk in Japanese. That's why I fucking hate these old localizations, always fucking cutting and censoring content.

The inconsistency of Simon's design in all media he's in bothers me. Me personally I see him as blonde. He looks retarded as hell with red hair. Its just not him no way.

You have both versions available on Playstation.

I kinda prefer the updated sprite though, it's more vibrant. The old one is a bit drab and boring.

I don't mind the brown hair but only because that would also suit him well and I always assumed it was just sprite limitations that he would have brown hair. Like how Mario in SMB3 has black overall. Its just that red hair and feminine look is what bothers me. I mean really Konami you're giving us this many designs of Simon? I think Nintendo got it pretty right with his Smash look. Looks more a less like how he does in the games.

I'd have to go with the arrange sprite, I've just always preferred Kojima's Dracula designs to the Bella Lugosi look, and Chronicles design is my favorite. It's a design that screams bloodsucking, aristocratic, medieval demon lord.

The X68000 version lets you see the full screen, whereas the PSX version obscures 15-20% of the screen with the HUD. The X68000 version also has working versions of the Stage 5 clock and Stage 7 seasonal painting, and the hitboxes are reportedly better as well.

The Arranged sprite is amazing, even hinting at Dracula's phase two transformation/the Curse of Man enemy with each attack. Also, unlike the original sprite, it actually fits within the teleportation beam.

Hey here is a build of winx6k or whatever the fuck that works pretty good, just for this game. I know bc i made it lmao. If some anons want it please sound off, i will post it.

I havent played the psx one, but the OG jap thing is pretty weird and cool. The music is very weird, only similar to Turbografx CD - i would bet the psx version emulates that fairly perfectly?

Aside from that the Windows/Dos style cutscenes are interesting and cool visually

PSX version of OG mode is inferior because it's missing the time-specific features and runs in a cropped display window.

Also don't listen to the retards ITT, the best X68000 emulator only takes a few clicks to get the game up and running fine.

the psx has the clock and painting thing as well. you have to enter a button code at the titlescreen to unlock the "extra option" menu which has an option to let you enter the date and time which then enables the clock and painting feature. annoying, but its there.

The last time I did this was a few years ago and at that time the best X68k emulator did not support sync-to-refresh (but beetle psx does) and required some contortions and tricks to get to display in native resolution. It wasn't as simple as picking a resolution from a drop-down box.
