Arrangement. The gimmicks like the dash and jump panels are fun, and there's a very cool scoring system where the larger ghosts award 2X the value, enticing you to get them as the last part of a chain for the highest bonus. Good visuals and amazing music too, as well as my favorite continue BGM ever.

its probably happened. Im one of the world record setters of some stupid psx game and they lost my scores due to some "server crash" bullshit that happened back when Walter Day left. I made backups of the fucking videos of my scores and they have ignored every email of mine for years now. I talked to Walter directly at the time and he personally verified my scores. My point? He's a bit of an asshole, and such a massive egotist it'd be amusing, or even charming, if it wasn't 100% deadpan serious. What's more, he lied to people, cheated, blamed others, and only admitted to it when backed into such a tight corner he couldn't wriggle out without losing his entire identity. He then apologized, changed nothing, and continued as the same arrogant, accusatory jerk he always was.

He's tremendously talented, but is the literal definition of prima donna. His abrasive, egotistical style and the ease with which he lies was balanced by his legacy somewhat, but he broke all of that because he was lazy, arrogant and assumed he could pass off bullshit and his stupid fans would just accept it.

Even if he does well, there are others with greater skill and who are much more palatable to watch. He might have stayed relevant if he had made the tinest gesture to being a tolerable human being, but he did not. He wanted everything to be about him, and it was. So, when he turned out to be just another annoying, lying, self-centered jerk, that's all he was, and his legacy went down with him.

Sucks, but there it is. Whatever he does is going to be under a shadow now.

If it's a schtick, it's a bad one. It's a beta nerd hobby, so him being a confident asshole is a great hook, but at this point it's played out. The disdain with which he looks down on other people might have been neat once, but he just comes across as that one nerdy asshole in school who still managed to act like a bully. Werster is all over speedrun.com as a number one runner after cheating. Several others too. Fact is this kind of shit was only ever about people getting super salty over a movie and letting it fester for a decade. When rogers was called out people latched onto it in an effort to finally fully discredit twin galaxies. The way I see it, it was a bunch of salty children mad a guy like their "mean dad" was good at video games.

You can apologize, and it's just words. If he thought he could get away with it, he'd do the same thing again, and his attitude doesn't give the slightest hint that he regrets what he's done and the damage it's done to his reputation. The only reason he's seemed even slightly upset was because his records got pulled. Being upset because you were punished and not because of what you did is forced contrition, nothing more.

His is vilified by his own mouth and actions. A witch hunt would imply there's no evidence or reason to dislike the man. There is. He lied, abused the system, and when caught he kept up the lie, trusting on his legacy and Twin Galaxies to make it go away. This is proven. It's not a witch hunt, it was a trial, and he was judged.

Other cheating speedrunners should be strung up as well, but nobody jams themselves into the public eye like Billy. Cram your name out there, and it'll get you famous, but when you fall you'll fall harder. If he wanted some legitimacy, speak out against cheating, try and bring some actual legitimacy back to high scores and speedrunning.
