PCB version 3.1 is iffy, but v3.2 seems to correct all of the major complaints I had about 3.1. It's definitely the most cost-effective solution for line-doubling, and it's essentially the only solution for composite and s-video. I wish it had a 480p passthrough mode, but YPbPr splitters aren't expensive if you're too lazy to unplug stuff.

It is if you have a N64 for s-video

Arguably the best device of its kind for most people. I love my OSSC, but it took a lot of effort and expense to get all my consoles hooked up and looking their best. Can't blame anyone for not wanting to deal with all that.

It works in 15 kHz mode. There's no known way to get the light gun to work on 31 kHz displays without modifications, but that's not a limitation of the RetroTINK-2X itself.

It's not as good as the OSSC or Framemeister, but it is a solid line doubler. I have one paired with my OSSC so that I could add composite and s-video to my video chain.

I played a bunch of N64 games on it via s-video before I RGB modded it and it looked really good. It's also my go-to method of playing NES games on a modern TV, since the OSSC doesn't support composite and RGB modded NES consoles are a fucking meme.

any lag

No, see >>5709834
Retrotink is as close to zero-lag as you can get. You're going to be limited by whatever display it's hooked up to, but assuming you have a fast panel you're looking at well under a frame of lag

Somehow I can't see myself recommending anything that's complete shit even at 3.1 but suddenly decent at 3.2.
Seems the firmware can be upgraded though so not all hope is lost! Wait, what? The equipment to upgrade the firmware costs as much as a new Retrotink because the designer is a fucking retard? That's beyond stupid.

Is it any good for PS2?

>> No.5710237

>>5710220
Not retro, but nah. The RetroTINK-2X doesn't support 480p, and 480i is just bob deinterlaced. If you need low latency 480i it might help, but as far as image quality goes you're probably better off just plugging the PS2 directly into your TV via component.

>>5710237
It works very well as a YPbPr to HDMI transcoder in the passthru mode, which can be helpful if your display/capture setup doesn't have YPbPr. But yeah, not passing through 480p is annoying.
>>5710210
I wouldn't characterize it as anywhere near complete shit, it's one of the best linedoublers I've used in fact. I just wish that v3.1 output YCbCr 16-235 instead of RGB 0-255, as most displays play nicer with that; it defaults to YCbCr as of PCB v3.2. I haven't had an opportunity to play with the new PCB, but it seems as though the hardware updates address the issues with losing sync when a full white screen is >1vpp, which is the only thing that gave me pause about v3.1. FWIW, I never experienced sync loss when using HD Retrovision cables with my Genesis.

Retrotink Ultimate is a hat for a Raspberry Pi. That's literally its one use case. If you don't need to hook a Pi up to a CRT, you don't need an Ultimate.

Why use generic JTAG-solutions when you can use some obscure shit.
