>TFW Phantasy Star IV was my first Phantasy Star.

Nothing will ever match it, I was so hype for a Phantasy Star to rival the PSX Final Fantasy's and then PSO is what I got. I get that people like PSO but I will forever be disappointed.

Pso is fucking great tho.
I dont know how they could continue releasing "classic" phantasy star games, the story ended pretty well with 4. Maybe prequels?

I know this feel.

Well actually I rented PS1 when I was 5 or 6 and didnt know what was going on. I played someone's save and probably ruined it but he had the spaceship and I loved just taking off and pretending I was flying it or something.

Much later I played ps4 on emu and loved that then went back and got like 70% through ps1 before I got sidetracked. Lost all my 11x17 graph paper maps years ago I think

Wouldn't have been the same anyway. You just know that a Phantasy Star 5 would have been a semi-nauseating experience like Shining Force 3 or Shining the Holy Ark.

The whole series has great music. Tokuhiko Uwabo on the first two, Izuho Takeuchi on III and Masaki Nakagaki joining her on IV. Great lineup, great musicians.

Phantasy Star 4 is a game I randomly played in one of the Genesis collections back in the 2000s. Neither myself nor any close friend ever had a Genesis back in the day and I only played stuff like Sonic and Golden Axe, didn't know these games existed. Absolutely loved it.

Then I played 2 and was blown away. What a great experience, the dungeons are amazing. Also for you synthwave fags, this game is literally that aesthetic.

1 and 3 do nothing for me.

>> No.5696415

What we need is a new Phantasy Star collection that includes the 4 mainline games, the 2 game gear games and the text adventures.

He dies of old age. Rika is a Numan, so she lives much longer than normal humans.

>> No.5698729

>>5697606
I guess she's a different model from old Nei back in PS2 since she seemed to age rapidly.

>> No.5698748

>>5698729
Yeah, they're two entirely different species. The word 'numan' only ever appears in Rika's stat page, translated Japanese material uses the terms Neitype and Faltype (Fal is Rika's Japanese name). Neitypes are abominations of science accidentally created by Motavia's bio plant going nuts. A mixture of human and biomonster DNA. They have a life span of about 2 years. Faltypes, on the other hand, were designed to breed with humans and create a race of supermen suited to the hostile envornment of post-apocalyptic Motavia. Though only one was produced she has a long lifespan presumably to facilitate the raising of the hybrid children.

The numans of PSO seem to take some influence from the Neitypes (questionable lifespan, dialogue suggests they don't age but can just drop dead one day without warning) but that is dropped in all later spinoffs where they're just plain old space elves.

I'm not positive on why Neifirst even tried to stop you on Climatrol. Wouldn't she die a few minutes after she killed Nei, anyway?

I think neifirst was kinda like a power source to nei, so killing her would kill nei, but if nei died she would live.

I liked them. Some good ideas but I can give you the series feels a bit generic.

There's many criticisms one could throw around but I am very surprised to hear 'generic'. I think even at the lowest points in the main series Phantasy Star remained unique.

I recently finished the Sega Ages port of Phantasy Star. I enjoyed experiencing the origin of this series. But I will say that's partly only because of the quality of life additions in this port. I'm a bit hesitant to player the other 3 games.

If you need your hand held, and I don't mean that in a shitcunt way, don't hesitate to play PS4. It's very beginner friendly and easy to get into. You won't need maps of any sort for that one.

>> No.5706402

>>5706367
Phantasy Star 3 is kind of easy, but boring. The maps aren't too complex and grinding (which is a bit boring) fixes pretty much everything. It's not a great experience, but it is an experience.

Do you like bashing your head against the wall?
Do you like looking at a map and praying for death?
Then PS2 is the game for you!
Visit: insane dungeons made by people who punch kittens and puppies!
Watch: best girl die off too soon!
Encounter: the worst spaceport known to man!
Wish: for another game to spend time with.
Phantasy star 2 has it's moments, but it's a monster.

The generation thing in the 3 is pretty interesting and cool. It gives it some replay value. For it's time this a great feature, but now a days that we're not paying 70 dollars for one game, it's not doing much. I do appreciate it for that. The differences in the end can be major or minor, but I will always at least defend the game for doing this. Game doesn't do much else.....but at least it did something a little unique among RPGs. among Phantasy star games...eh

>> No.5707324

I have to admit that, while I navigated almost every dungeon in PSII by myself, I had to look up maps for all the final dungeons (the ones where you get the magical items). Fuck that tower in specific.

Yep, many, many holes and only one way back up to start the blind falling all over again. It is infuriating.

>>5707851
I played through blind with no maps except for that one dungeon, which I gave up on and used a map. That very map. Ikuto is pure cancer, fuck it in every one of its 93 holes.
