>> No.5700935

It's a rare psyduck, of course it does.
Take your time though. I still haven't done it, but from time to time I go back to Stadium and beat the elite four with mons I haven't used before. Some times they're shitmons and they're just there filling space while Mewtwo and Mew screw things up, but sometimes you get to use ones that aren't bad and maybe you rarely or ever used.

Since "candied" Pokemon are weaker than "battled" Pokemon because rare candies do not increase Stat experience like battling. And from what i understand the high level pokemon you find in the wild are not as strong as the one you have trained. If you're familiar with later games, "Stat Experience" and "EVs" are the same thing, except Pokemon fans are autistic enough to give them different names because it was reworked slightly in later gens (there's no official term for it). Basically, the more wild Pokemon you knock out with a Pokemon, the stronger it becomes. The only reason a level 2 Mewtwo would be stronger than the Mewtwo caught at level 70 is because it knocked out a lot of Pokemon to get to that level. You can also just take the Cereulean Mewtwo and beat up a bunch of Pidgeys or whatever for hours to the same effect (although the stat you gain varies based on which Pokemon you kill).

The "box glitch" isn't even a glitch so much as a consequence of gen 1 Pokemon only updating their stats when they level up. So if you kill hundreds upon hundreds of Pidgey at level 100, the game just won't update the stats. You can just shove the Pokemon in the PC and take it out to get it to update.

>> No.5707254

It sucks that some Pokemon can't learn good STAB moves on their own, like Hitmontop doesn't get good fighting moves unless you breed a Hitmonlee with a Ditto, had i known that before i wouldn't have bothered to raise Hitmontop up to level 50 but i don"t want to get rid of it since i don't want to feel like all those hours training him were a waste

Haven’t cared about pokemon in years but if they put out a stadium-esque game with all the freedom and qol improvements of showdown I’d get it in a heartbeat. I don’t give a shit about grinding or whatever excuse of a story there is, but the battling system is pretty fun.

Just give me full customizability from a menu so I can do teambuilding without the timewasting bullshit.

Also I like the animal like sounds for pokemon more than them saying their names, though mascot ones like pikachu and clefairy are exceptions.

Without worrying about resources needed for a story mode it’d be way easier to actually have quality animations again.

This kind of well made battle focused pokemon game is the only pokemon game that would interest me at all.

Of course this is a pipedream cause gamefreak thinks people only cared about seeing pokemon in 3D, and if they did do it they’d do a horribly halfassed job.

I like that the game still has voice clips I haven't heard before, because they're either tied to obscure moves like Egg Bomb or rare circumstances like taking away 75% of the opponent's HP with an attack that's not very effective.

>> No.5708215

>>5703697
in gen 1 and 2, every time your pokemon defeats an enemy pokemon, be it wild or a trainer, it gets points called "EVs" in each stat (equal to the opposing pokemon's base stat, iirc). these EVs accumulate and when your pokemon levels up (or are deposited in a box like the other anon mentioned), they may add up to increases in stats if you've accumulated enough. rare candies don't increase EVs. this is why a pokemon exclusively leveled with rare candy is weaker. a pokemon caught at level 50 and trained to 100 would be just as strong as one that was caught at level 2 as long as it battled enough.

This may not apply to most players, but the biggest appeal of Stadium to me was basically that it provided a sort of post-game for Gens 1 and 2. Some of those trainers were pretty challenging by in-game standards, and it was great to have something so extensive for those Pokemon I'd leveled up. If a new Pokemon Stadium came out that actually had the same level of effort put into it, I'd honestly be willing to forgive GF for making the core games so braindead easy.

>>5707254
Agreed, the movesets are one of the things that make the first couple Gens a little hard to revisit unless you're playing a ROMhack or something. So many Pokemon just aren't fun to use because they don't get any interesting moves.

No, you are thinking about "EV's", or "Effort Values" which give you additional stat increases while leveling up based on pokemon you have KO'd. Each pokemon can only gain a finite number of stats this way though, so no, a level 2 Mewtwo would not be any stronger or have more stats than one raised from level 70 as long as they both max out their EVs.

Yes, although you're better off grinding in Cerulean Cave than grinding pidgeys, since the amount of EVs you get is determined by the base stats of the Pokemon. For example, Pidgey has 45 attack, so every Pidgey you kill gives you 45 attack EVs. Meanwhile, Golbat has 80 attack, so killing one gives you almost twice as much per kill.
