Thoughts on Space Harrier?

>> No.5686958

One of my top 10 games of all time, I love it. SMS port sucks though, I honestly like the Famicom port better. Playing in HD in the Shenmue collection rules, as does the 3DS port. Looking forward to the Sega Ages Switch release.

tru but it's the one i grew up with so I feel nostalgic for it, along with Fantasy Zone 2

Space harrier and afterburner are arcade only. The motion cabinet was half the fun.

It's great. I absolutely love the game.

I cannot in good conscience accept this, mostly because the shooting in the Famicom version absolutely fucking blows, your shots head down the corridor in a really fucking weird way. Everything is tiny and flickery too.
It's fucking terrible.

SMS version is kinda ugly because it uses background tiles instead of sprites (to avoid the problems of flicker and object size that the NES version has), which makes it a bit choppy and there's loads of weird looking shit like the bosses since background tiles can't be transparent to each other, but it plays well enough.

has any game ever reached twice the mega power except this one?

>> No.5687205

I like it, fun game, great soundtrack, only problem is I'm not sure if it's cheating to abuse credits on MAME or if I should attempt to 1cc it.

I can get to stage 9/10 on 1 credit, but never anymore, the game becomes wayyyyy to hard for me and I feel like cheating to add an additional credit.

I really want to finish it, but I'm just not good enough.

I used to think that and then I 1cced it... can't do it consistently at all tho

There are better Spacer Harrier clones on NES/famicom than any Space Harrier port of the era

Thanks for reminding me I still need to do my annual playthrough of the Turbografx-16 version of Space Harrier. It was my first game ever.

I totally understand your perspective but I'll take the slow down over the enemies coming at you with green squares around them, that shit is simply too jank.
>>5687978
Absolutely, Attack Animal Gakuen is rad (though insanely difficult), as are pretty much every other SH clone on the system.

Do you still have your TurbografX-16/PC-Engine? What other games do you have on it?

It's timeless and wonderful. Skunk fucker did an excellent LP series on all of the space harrier games.
