Why doesn't someone hack this to have decent physics

>> No.5678060

I wanted to like this game, but it's nearly unplayable. How can people defend this?

>> No.5678064

Because the physics are perfect as is.

if my 6 year old self can finish that game, you can too.

>> No.5678084

The physics aren't necessarily bad, just different.

Levels are designed around the physics, brainlet.

Super Mario Land is the comfiest Mario of all.

>people ITT actually defending SML1's physics
15 years ago everyone said it was a good game but that it controlled poorly. When did this change?

I don't think he's saying it's hard, just that it's unpleasant

>> No.5678226

>>5678056
because it would still be shit even with better physics, so why bother?

>> No.5678658

>>5678056
because the game is a glorified tech demo and not worth the effort

Mate, the controls are REALLY bad. I'm not bad at the game. I've beat it, but I wasn't having fun. I was completing a chore. Most of the game's difficulty comes from controlling Mario, and not from the level design.

You will play it as the developers intended and you will LIKE IT

As a launch title it was okay but only as it was the first worthwhile portable Mario platformer. The Super Mario Bros. Game & Watch was godawful, even by G&W standards.

I understand why people bought it back in the day, but that doesn't make it good.

>> No.5679259

You have to play this game on original hardware to understand it. I'm not talking about a Gameboy color or a Gameboy pocket. I'm talking about the original grey brick, with the contrast set to medium and the volume turned up.
Only then will you truly understand Super Mario Land.

Zoomers will never understand. This game may control like shit, but it was revolutionary. When we thought of a "handheld Mario game" back in the day, we thought of this. Super Mario Land was a huge leap forward.
