So... he was standing there for days waiting for someone to challenge him?

No, she has security, and took the back door in once they alerted her that a challenger had arrived.

He isn't there all the time, so he was just training.

>>5673072
There's no such thing as 'days' in Red & Blue. All the game could happen in a single day.

He was chilling out in the hidden lounge and then when the alarm rang that let him know someone was coming to challenge him, he went and stood out there ahead of time so that he could look cool. Same with every gym leader, etc.

One thing Ive never liked about these games is that they have you believe that before you beat the E4, your rival has done it just a few moments earlier. This makes no sense, when you fight each of them they all act cocky, but if your rival really has just become champion, theyve been beaten by a kid just like you. Dont they need time to recover their pokemon? Dont your rival?
Also, does it mean an endless stream of people can beat the E4 in a given day and there would be a number of different champions every 24 hs? This shit makes no sense.

Sure, yeah. It's the old martial arts movie cliche, the master gets bored of his title and becomes a hermit awaiting somebody worthy of challenging him.

I always thought of the league challenge as more of an exam than a real shot at becoming the best trainer in the region. The fact they casually have two different teams depending on what region's badges you have pretty much confirms it.
"Oh gee whiz kiddo, you collected badges from Johto AND Kanto? Well now I guess we're going to get really serious! *wink wink*"

>>5673734
The later games have a more coherent structure for the Elite Four, but I don't think any of them even tried to explain the mess that was going on with Kanto's version.

In Red/Blue it's implied you face the same trainers again. I don't know if this holds true in the japanese version. The idea being the bug trainer you fought in one place is like "hey remember me" in another place. That you're all chasing for and going after pokemon and the gym challenge all at once in all different directions. The chase is a tight one, running into your rival who was always a step ahead.

I always thought this too. The Champion is supposed to be going all-out to keep the position, but the Elite Four is strictly gate-keeping.

I don't think anything supports this at all besides the same sprites/titles for NPCs.

Is that why there are entire sections of the game where there are trainers of the same type lined up for you to fight one after the other? I'm pretty sure Viridian Forest has multiple bug catchers on one screen, for example.
