I'm trying to play "Sam and Max Hit the Road" without using the hint book. But I'm stuck and I think I might have to rely on the book.

Being stuck means you can chew on the idea subconsciously. I get not wanting to do that, but you said you didn't want to use hints.

C'mon. Asking for help online isn't much different from using a walkthrough.

I got stuck there too. I don't remember what to do exactly

you gotta stick max's head in the fusebox dumbo

Have tried to bruteforce it - just trying every item on every other item and active screen area.

So I have to hear a lot of "I can't use those things together I can't use those things together I can't use those things together."

I gave up and read a little bit of the hint book. Found out I had to win the "Wak-a-Rat" game and pick up a flashlight that comes out of the game as a prize.

official hintbook is actually breddy good, it's a story narrated from sam's perspective and you get some art from the comic books in it

god knows I hate adventure games, sam & max is about 10% logic and 90% moon logic, but I don't mind it because it's actually funny

could've used max as a designated hint dispenser if you were stuck for more than 10 minutes

>> No.5673183

Come to think of it, was there an adventure game worse than Discworld in terms of the so-called "moon logic"?

was it that one or the hitchhiker's guide that was pretty much deliberately trolling the player

It's a LucasArts game, just click on everything until you advance.

>trolling
You made me remember Monty Python's Holy Grail with its "Do you want to win the game?" in the very first game screen, then you click "I do" and the game gets you straight through to fanfares, end-game credits and then kicks you back to your OS.

>> No.5673195

You can use max on things. You have to do that several times in the game.

Lucasarts/Humongous Entertainment adventure games always have certain puzzles randomly swapped out so you might not actually encounter something that would have been required to progress in another new game.

Sleep on it. I usually get past blocks when I play with a fresh mind.
