So, I'm just sitting here and then all of a sudden I get a video suggestion on a game called power slave. I scope it out and this game looks fucking slick as hell. Unfortunately, the best version from what I'm told is the saturn version. I don't have a saturn but I'm very interested in playing. Any suggestions on how to play it. I scoped out power slave ex and from what I understand, it's the play station version. Thanks in advance. This is probably a stupid question.

Powerslave is fucking great. It's like an Egyptian themed Metroid Prime.

Follow this guy's tutorial to get a pretty good Saturn emulator running.

Well best version is debatable, for you see, the Saturn version came first and had some movement bugs that allowed for grenade jumps and sequence skips that are greatly helpful in speedruns.
Theoretically the Playstation version which came slightly later and fixed some of those bugs is the "superior" version according to the developers.

The Saturn version is 100% accurately emulated using yabause emulator.

I hold the (only) speedrun of the Saturn version so i'd have noticed if anything was off.
The only thing that's different is that the background graphics during loading screens is missing.

He should play the Saturn version first and if he likes the game enough, play the PS1 version, since about 3-4 levels are different

Game director and one of the mappers on the game, Brian McNeely said outright (in his unseen64 interview, if I am not mistaken), that layout-wise he liked Playstation version more than Saturn one, due to more polish to said layouts.
Just sayin'.

OP here, I was under the impression that saturn emulation was terrible and that I should stay away. I think I'll monkey around with yabause. If I like the game, I might shell out some dosh for a saturn and venture into some other hidden gems. Thanks for the reply.

Just play the EX version? No idea why would you want to play at 240p and 10 fps with terribad tank controls. The differences between PSX and Saturn versions are minimal anyway.

>> No.5672024

I had the same question recently. I came to the conclusion that I wanted to start with the pc version, and then play either the saturn or psx version.

You can find ready to play packages on The Collection Chamber. I will not link it, just google it. They run well on windows 10.

One package is the PC version (which I am going through at the moment). One package has both the Saturn and PSX version in it.

Powerslave EX can also be found online. But you'll need the separate mouse fix patch on win10. I understand that EX was never really completed and/or rushed in the end. I will probably skip it once I played the versions mentioned above.

This thread is bizarre. Why would anybody want to play the shitty PSX/SAT versions when Kaiser made a perfect PC port?

maybe because it's based on the the PS1 version, and OP wants to play the saturn version

and also maybe because it's an empirical recreation of a port... so a shitty innacurate port of something which was already a port

if you find mednafen boring to set up like i do, you can play it on SSF, a much simpler emulator with an actual UI.
but the differences ps1/saturn are small anyway, it's great on the ps1 too
