I really like Hideous Destructor in general, but I dislike how enemies are 100% quiet.

I know this means you are also 100% quiet and able to sneak up on enemies. But I wish this was not so. It would reward the player or even enemies for moving at walk speed for ambushes and thus quieter. Even muffled footsteps while a marine is running around at lightspeed would be better than nothing.

Just really irks me that a resurrected/traitor Marine with a grenade launcher gets to zoom around the place and 1HKO me without warning

Doing TNT for the first time in my life, I used to always drop it at the second map right after playing through Doom 1 and 2 from burnout.
The map quality really picks it up, doesn't it? It's really now feeling more like the level design of the first game with a touch more of sadist mixed in with the monsters from 2.
Now I really understand why the commando became such a meme, these maps are nasty with them, far more than vanilla.
Does anyone else insist on only using the keyboard when playing without mods?

If I am not mistaken, games actually are less responsive in OpenGL because the GPU adds another layer of processing. Software rendering at 20 FPS was perfectly playable because it completed everything in just 50 milliseconds.

After some google-fu, I'm coming up empty handed. It seems to be a unique game engine. There is software to extract the levels from a rom into some kind of format, but it isn't a playable format. I'm not sure, but the next step after that might be to find a converted to put it into doom wad format. Then I guess fill in missing textures.

The easiest way to play on PC seems to be to just emulate a GBA, but I sympathize with wanting to run a real PC engine instead.

On to E4M4 boys. So far M2 was my least favorite with M3 being a lot of fun once I figured out they want you to use the power weapons like plasma rifles and rocket launchers much more than the base game.
I even went back and did M2 without save scumming. I won't be Romero's bitch.

GBA Duke is in a specialized Doom format (Southpaw). GBA Duke may have even had the same level layouts as GBA Doom. Seems like the first stage is moving from the cart format to wad. Getting it to GRP would be yet another step, but maybe a good one if it means being able to bypass some of the graphics steps.

Because of infinite lives in most coop servers it can become a rush of people screaming thru the level shooting demons and then falling over like dying is going outta style. Also because of this most smaller/standard size maps get finished really fast, so a lot of coop servers run slaughtery super huge maps.

Survival mode makes things less hectic because you cant just leeroy in all day, but one of the problems about coop in general is that staying in a group is bad because usually you will wind up running into a projectile or rocket that was meant for another player and bumping into each other / shooting each other because you're all running so damn fast you can't react to each other crashing into each other like a couple of drunk drivers, before a cyberdemon explodes the both of you.

It is a cool way to explore new wads online, maybe ones you wouldn't have bothered downlaoding and trying yourself. once I found a server hosting Pirate Doom and that was a fun romp.

Okay, how would I go about not playing the AttackSound of an enemy everytime he attacks?
I have a rather fast hitting enemy and its AttackSound is annoying. Is there any way to have a "cooldown" for the sound?

I'm trying out a slight tweak to Blaz's gameplay and I'm gonna see how well it turns out, his sword combo damage is spread out where the whole thing is pretty strong rather than just the last few hits. Meaning you kill weak dudes with a single hit. The trade off being you're not gonna get as much mana from fighting them now seeing as they die faster.
Subweapons take longer to recharge when you run out, subweapon ammo resets to 0 on new map changes, and the Blazter will always reset to 15 shots at the start of every map. Scrolls no longer give sword mana on pickup either, and pickups in general are less valuable for sword mana.

With these changes it's looking to make Blaz properly reflect his stats as the strongest melee guy, and I'm further kicking crutch play out seeing as it's harder to ride out a constant supply of powered sword strikes.
I'm gonna keep testing this to make sure it feels right. I have the time anyways seeing as I'm still waiting on sprites.

Injetors drop en masse via picking ''kill aura enemies'' missions and just killing them. The droid, the syringe of your own and the buffs cast via mana all use different resources. Anybody else have the problem that Doom isn't scary anymore? I've played through Doom and Doom II so much that I know the levels by heart. They're still fun, but they don't shock or amaze you when you know every twist and turn.

But I just loaded up Hexen for the first time since I was a kid, and man, this is a super creepy game. Now I got this flood of memories coming back to me of being so scared and full of dread playing this back in the day. I think Hexen is way darker and horrific than Doom ever was. I just played it on PrBoom+ to check. Anons are right, the door to the chainsaw in E1M2 is supposed to ONLY open to shots, hitting the use key on it does not do anything.

On GZDoom, it also only opens by shooting it by default.

The reason I was confused is that I've been playing a lot of Hideous Destructor, and in HD apparently you CAN hit use on that wall to open it without having to shoo it.

Also, if you are new I'd encourage you to play without Ugly as Sin for now. It brings some changes that heavily alter the intended HD gameplay. Stealth is kinda borked OP in it. Slings spawning in the world take up valuable loot spots that are now useless for you (since you can only carry one at a time). And food/water rations will spawn in backpacks even if you have that Hunger module disabled. It has some cool ideas (like the laser sight and flashlight visual effect on enemies when they're in the dark) but needs more time in the oven imo.

It's slow to start with but between using properly timed jump lunges and sprinting. You can have a fair amount of speed as long as you keep weight low.

So I'm the new guy to Blood that posted a while ago, with some experience in Doom and Quake

On Well Done and Extra Crispy it feels like Caleb is puny in comparison to how strong everyone else is. On Lightly Broiled you do get to feel a bit like a gunslinger undead badass, while still retaining a challenge.

I wonder if it's a matter of experience with BUILD engine games. On Doom's Ultraviolence I can "feel like the doomguy" most of the time unless I make a severe misplay, but it still remains challenging (at least many PWADS). On Blood's Well Done, it feels like the protagonist is very weak and you have to start abusing the AI/game to succeed.

Is this a matter of experience? Do you breeze through Well Done eventually as well, or does it always remain challenging for seasoned Blood vets?

"The Express Elevator To Hell" from Master Levels is probably my least favorite opening to any official DOOM level (though I've only played a few Master Levels so it might get worse by the end of the pack).

Blood generally is a much harder game imo. The weapons do not hit as hard and are gimmicky, average enemies swallow much more damage, do not fight each other and have annoying abillities. Played the game for quite a while and still get regularily raped when I fuck up.

That was one of the problems I didn't have with WinROTTGL, the one I kept running into was that when looking up or down (or sometimes when trying to), the looking would occasionally lock up at that angle for maybe 10 seconds, resulting in me being stuck looking upwards when I really needed to lool forward (and sometimes vice versa).
I kind of ended up adapting to this well enough, but it was annoying as hell that it was happening.

I'd kill for a more useful and jank-free sourceport, one with basic 3D rendering for level geometry, and gamepad support.
