Why do you come to /vr/ anons?
What topic, game or genre is the reason you keep coming back?
Is it only to fight strangers about child hood memories or reliving old times?

Doom, hardware talk, and preservationist threads.

I'm a zoomer who comes here to learn about interesting games that I missed

>> No.5661242

I'm a huge NES/Gameboy fan, and I love finding obscure Nintendo games that I missed out on as a kid. I find 8-bit Nintendo games incredibly charming.

So what was the Initial game that got you interested in older games?

>> No.5661249

Mostly to talk about the N64.

Yeah my love also started with the nes, has always been a part of my life growing up and it has so many titles you never saw as a kid, and there were some Real good ones I missed

It's tough to say. I've always been interested in games with good modding capabilities. So I guess it was a natural step to go from Oblivion and Skyrim mods to rom hacks, Neverwinter Nights modules, Doom 1/2 wads and Thief fan missions.

I'm also pretty interested in games that introduced a certain mechanic or innovation, I'm drawn to the history of these things.

I come to /vr/ find out about new old games I never knew about before. Growing up as a Nintendo/Sega/Sony console kid in America in the late 80s/early-mid 90s there were tons of games all over the world happening on all kinds of machines that I was unaware of. I come back to /vr/ every few months and still see threads about things that are new to me that I go and try out.

>> No.5661297

A lot of my favorite game franchises are /vr/ related properties, so it's easier to discuss them here on /vr/ than /v/ due to the board being slower.

To convince others to use Nintendo products, even if it's not in their best interests. Wii and SNES mini for emulation, things like that.

>> No.5661492

At first it was to discover old games. Now I don't have a compelling reason, there is not much to discuss. I want to dig in the platform genre in the future, so I will become more active again soon.

I come to /vr/ for my main squeeze on getting stuff like missed things such as trivia or other miscellaneous knowledge on my favorite retro, and even learn about stuff I've never played. SNES is my favorite console and I know it sits well with just about everybody. I bought an sd2snes about a year back and it got me feeling like a kid again not playing on emulator for the first time in ages. Before that I had to often sell alot of my games just to make rent meet and to move because I've had a chaotic and difficult upbringing, causing things to get destabilized pretty quickly. I like that threads here continue you for a while most of the time and often enough the trolls stay out of here unless someone from /v/ isn't getting enough attention there and they come to shit up the board. The only threads I don't really check out are things pertaining to atari and earlier, stuff like that because its beyond my time. I'm 26 now and I still don't really mesh with newer games. Out of new games and anything non /vr/ my favorites/only things I've been excited by in the past few years are: doom 2016, modern warfare 2, overwatch (for a while, until it was patched to shit), and the dark souls series. I played melee competitively for a while but had to stop due to monetary means and making it back from work after 7pm most of the time, and having to wake up pretty early so I could never really make the time to continue going. I come /vr/ because I realize my interest in gaming and the things I've experienced through it all as a kid and teenager into adult growing up never left my imagination and only fueled my creativity. I'm an amateur game dev and I've been using rpgmaker since I was a kid in dreams of one day making my own game and its sorta steadily working. I've been getting better at it. I continue playing retro so I'll continue discussing retro so I can get those tid-bits of information, soul, glory, and magic that made these games growing up still timeless.

Meet people that like things I like. Get reminded of things I have forgotten from my childhood. Maybe run across downloads for things I don't have or didn't know existed.

I for one genuinly like older games (even a lot that came before I was born) why should you only like something you grew up with?>>5661230

/v/ only talks about new shit and I choose to not get a job so I have infinite free time, but that means I can't get current gen systems or games, so I come here looking for new roms to download or old PC games to pirate. Any games I'm playing are 10 years older or more than whatever any of my friends are playing so we have nothing to talk about.

I mean I don't. Those are just the primary reasons. I participate in a lot of threads here but those are the main reasons why I log in here.

I find old hardware, software, and emulation interesting. Plus there's some really neat old games that I wouldn't hear about otherwise.
