doom lore might be a double edge sword
>if doomslayer is not doomguy, then the lore really is barely about the doom that mattered the most since it's expanding on a different version of the series (same thing for wolfenstein)

Alright, so I have made some weapons in the past. Everything was done in Decorate because almost two years ago I didn't have the nerve to get into ZScript, although I think I could do more of what I actually want to do with it. Also, I haven't done any modding since then.

I mean, classic Doom matters the most to me, but I still like Doom 4 a lot, hell, I still like Doom 3 a decent bit, and most would say it isn't canon to either classic Doom or current Doom.

Classic was what it was and lives on indefinitely through the fans and their content, and has the option to be as open ended as you feel like it would be, while new Doom clearly is building some of its own identity (which I think they should focus more on). I'm mostly fine with this development.

They outsourced it to keep their focus on the singleplayer, but the contracted product wasn't that great, so they decide "Fuck it, let's just do the singleplayer."

Are you playing on GZDoom?
If so, that's happening because Graf has whack defaults. Change the Sector Lighting mode to Vanilla instead of Dark. That way light will emanate in close proximity of Doomguy so you can see.

I would be seriously surprised if they release map tools, considering how awful snapmap was. I did some neat things with it, but the amount of effort I had to put in was insane, and I didn't even try to make custom areas. It fucking baffles me how they didnt have something as simple as the ability to create GROUND without using some sort of workaround. Just to make climbable columns, I had to take the generic column prop, disable its collision, make a custom rectangle prop roughly the size of the column, make it invisible, and splice it into the space where the column was. Working around the 13 demon limit was a massive pain requiring me to despawn enemies in certain areas according to triggers, and creating an encounter with enemies that actually spawn reasonably required a complex series of counters and spawn points pictured here.

Vanilla makes farther sectors darker as well.
If you want them to be brighter, as wellas have a bright spot around you like in vanilla, choose "Doom" lightmode. "Software" lightmode is an old way of emulating software and is a middleground between "Doom" that has slightly lower contrast between areas and "Vanilla" that is much darker at a distance than actual vanilla for some reason.

There's a trick for the torch puzzle, at least in source ports. Make a save file in front of the torches in the first hall, then at the puzzle room open up the load menu and look at the thumbnail for a reference. It's still not a particularly fun segment, but that does help a bit.

Crouch slide is powerful, but you have to be careful with it. If you've just recently been hit or are at particularly low health you can indeed throw yourself into a wall and finish yourself off. It's available when all your other fast movement options aren't, so it's best used to make escapes from bad situations while jumping and sprinting will serve you better on the offensive.

Sorry for the late reply but my question is what I should do with the circled area of my map. All those random smaller squares are giant crates. Map theme is a warehouse. Here's how the map should flow:
>Player spawns, fights monsters in first room outside player start. Shotgun in the small north closet by green door. Other north room is a monster closet that opens when red key is picked up.
>Can't used locked green door yet, so player goes south into hallway. Encounters red door and blocked off path, so they can only go into the west "utility" area. Orange door is secret door that's locked (switch in monster closet mentioned above).
>Player uses switch in the northern part of the utility area to open the green door and collect red key causing a small ambush in starting area. Player then proceeds through red door into loading dock area. Sees locked blue doors and proceeds into little connector room right above them.
This is where I'm kinda lost at what I should do next. They need to get the blue key next which is inside storage, go back to docks and unlock loading bay blue doors, then flip a switch inside the loading bay to lower some bollards leading to the yellow key. The area surrounding all this inside the circled area feels a little bland right now.

Playing Doom for the first time, somehow I kept thinking I'd played it but that was Doom 2.
I started on ultra violence and the game is a lot nicer than I was expecting. it's very generous with health, armor and ammo compared to Duke 3D.

In Hideous Destructor, I wish that during intermissions, the mod automatically placed the new 7.76mm rounds into available magazines for the liberator if you have it in your inventory (which you obviously do, since you used it to generate new rounds from the brass+lead collected)

As it stands right now, after each intermission you have to take cover and slowly place all 30 rounds into each Lib mag. Unless I'm missing something.

I know an objection to this would be "well what if the player is also using the BOSS" - well, if they were, then the mod would see that you have both the lib and boss, and so would not consolidate rounds into the magazines and just fall back to the default behavior

3 options:
Chocolate Doom - fully vanilla experience
Crispy Doom - it's chocolate but with unlocked framerate and double the resolution. Remember, even Doom95 had double the resolution back in the day. IMO the best way to play vanilla, theres no going back after seeing unlocked framerate.
PrBoom+ - gives you custom resolution, it's what I use now for IWADS. Still very faithful.

However, I'd strongly advise you to screw IWADS and try some of the PWADS. I was like you over the years and only tried Valiant a couple of days ago. The community maps really are awesome.
